  1. insurance may not need to be paid for by you, in so far as the cover actually covers your actions, trust insurance ,arbinure ,treesurgeon insurance, not in any particular order ... the voluntary group should be able to aks their broker to quote surely
  2. google arbjobs ... or follow link from Arbtalk ad's
  3. perhaps that's for a business plan - model to argue dependant on your own & client dynamic
  4. firstly welcome to Arbtalk the Search function on the head of your page is helpful ,, be careful what you buy , there are many P&D out there that can wreck a crop. As this is your own money I would suggest the answers are best learned when you find them yourself ... there are Defra funded NFP organisations out there who can assist with some key info Iain
  5. Yep never better thanks Paul it wasnt a pop fella , glad your not going , you seem to bring some sanity , it must b your northern heritage lol
  6. plenty of wind around here,, 7 callouts across teesside & yorkshire 2 more which are not immediate, scheduled in for tomorrow at home the wind has picked up our steel andersons shelter & thrown it sidewards
  7. 2 calls outs here already for us , normal works suspended for today to deal with fallen trees
  8. We had a couple of teams in Bradford ,, what a hotspot for theft attempts, we've never come across the like anywhere else, ever !!!
  9. the danger of any lease -loan is the length & terms of that lease -loan.. especially where work volume or profits from that work can fluctuate as you have a minimum known debt burden without a confirmed defined income. I have seen loads of Arb firms collapse because they got out of their depth with debt burdens that they couldn't service before they knew what had hit them their kit was repossessed by the lease company & any un resolved debt remains with the trader if not a LTD so house & cars and other assets could be vulnerable often the best route is too; buy what you need as you need it, where you have the funds or proven income to do so ,
  10. your correct , He may have.. or not ... personally I arent sure its not a public forum thing, that's all,
  11. I started Oakdale http://www.OakdaleLtd.com with a £5,000 bank loan 13 years ago, thankfully the company is worth a few quid more than that now... LOl I started off with the £5k to get 1 van, some climbing kit & a lot of self belief, & quite a large slice of business management behind me, I know of those who have started with a world of debt & promises & hopes then folded within the first 2 years when the work dries up.. No reference intended to GC ,as they are fairly new to Arbor , the first 2-3 years of any business is hard Iain
  12. be careful; what you post on an open forum fella,, you may be wrong
  13. Hi Mac the colours are a bit harsh on the eyes,, good pic's tho
  14. the timeframe is set & whether it is polite or not to check is perhaps a matter for the onward good rapport, between applicant & LA planners so the timeframe is in place no ifs buts or maybes , However that is In so far as you can prove the date that the notification was sent / rec'd. you are as safe as houses, if you can't prove when the notice was sent/ rec'd then you cant wholly prove the clock started ticking , that' would be a circumstance where a simple implementation of works would be dangerous stance to take my stance is that all notices 211 or otherwise are emailed with a read receipt required of the recipient & send to multiple recipients ,,especially if its a Planningadmin@ or Planningdept@ type address,, The Planning portal does give the correct email address for the relevant planning authority & in so far as you use that email ,,the La cant argue it hasn't had sufficient time to deal with the notice or application. Iain
  15. me ! I hold that assessor unit chainsaw maint' felling <380mm felling> 380mm tree climbing aerial rescue use of chainsaw in tree Woodchipper Polechainsaw soon to hold mewp chainsaw & stumpgrinder
  16. remember its an assessment of your competence not excellence, no written aspects, but there is quite a bit to memorise surrounding your underpinning knowledge of what your doing, why you work the way you do & the checks you should make prior too and during any process along with a correct method & safe working practices...
  17. NO you dont if you sell it for less than you paid for it ... however you may need to charge Vat on the profit,,,
  18. Marc LOL .. thats because I've been through exactly what & where you're going through.. I started my firm 13 years ago, with frankly sod all .. borrowed some money and have worked damn hard ever since the burden of accreditation isn't cheap, either in monetary or office commitment terms.. but if you want to prove your firms quality, to bigger buyers then I'm afraid it is the only way.. re this incident if you don't want to say who it was in public forum, if you pm me I might be able to suggest ways to afford this the AA isn't what it was ! , nor are they anti small firms, speak to their Paul Smith, he's a nice bloke
  19. Marc in what context as an individual member or as AAAc contractor NPTc & lantra certificates or now Licence to practice certs etc are modular courses based around individual attainment of a criteria by displaying a skills set & conveying their underpinning knowledge & not reflective of the Team or the business capablitys or abilities in operation ,, as an NPTC assessor myself I have suggested that a team in-situ assessment could be developed for practical assessment ,, this gives some indication to customers of the wider operational ability. this does leave clients with a ronseal tin test dilemma to support how well a company operates its systems communication and support of frontline operations. SO clients often pre check a companys ability before issuing termed contracts, so they can often take the quickest route which is external verification of the companies support systems, policies protocols and documentation,, as you rightly point out The AA are a private group that provide such a test there are however others such as CHAs , and Iso audits for compliance to internationally recognised standards such as ISO 18001 H&S , 9001 Quality & 14001 environment management DO you hold any pre accreditations as a company or sole trader or otherwise , by which procurement departments can verify your standing ? these are often point scored during procurement / tendering exercises , if not you can lose out !! What were you told ,, outright no because of none AA ??? if so was that made clear from the outset ?, if not you could perhaps appeal it , dependant on who the client is, [ public monies] they may not be able to preclude you just because you don't currently hold an accreditation which is none mandatory for UK companies in this sector All company pre qualifications / accreditations are by desire of the managers owners or directors or the business need and are not by mandatory by statute or other law
