  1. I wonder if they'll add anything to ensure statutory undertakers conform to bs3998 2010
  2. An outbreak of ash dieback (Chalara fraxinea) has been confirmed in the National Forest near Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire. The Forestry Commission has identified the disease on 17-year-old and five-year-old trees National Forest hit by Chalara | Login | Horticulture Week
  3. earborist .. what is it ?
  4. horselogger there are many ways to look at this IF only a small fraction of trainers can train under the FISA umbrella and that ALL foresters need refreshers , then a question arises as to how will they get it all achieved when the trainer candidate ration will be finite. if as your comments suggest you feel the numbers of trainers are restricted at a potential strangle hold point then would the scheme not be doomed before it gets going. just thoughts
  5. Correct .... HSe said you either regulate an industry with high accidents rates or ... ! as in the background [ EU ] there are already calls [ from some lobbyists ] for Chainsaws to be banned re the above mentioned concerns over Fisa [perceived - purported strangle hold on contractors ], I also understand from Lantra awards that they are pro actively moving on this . 11. theres much to the whole inter web thingy , never liked google ad campaigns I know of other trades who when bored sit in the office and click on their competitors pay per click links tagging / naming your pages correctly, good script, meta details and search terms, search engine optimisiation & the list goes on and on Q why dont you use your .co.uk url as an email ? you have a yahoo email when you have your own , seems bizarre
  12. thats good ... are you well buddy ? maybe lots of worried face's around many local authorities and RSLs many who resist tree removals . due to cost implication, dressed up as retaining amenity value ,,, trees are under enough onslaught with ever increasing P&D let alone stress from urbanisation pollards are only one answer, best done in open places, as pollards can seriously retard rootplate volume, with potentially catastrophric results we have seen an increase in tree failures this year perhaps in part due to the hard long winter and then wet spring and recent high winds , even rowan with little leaf mass still in blossom
  13. lucky .. could have been much worse. knee jerk reaction .. lots of applications and requests for tree removals me thinks,.. for a price we might move darn souff for a bit ,, can we crash at yours Davy lol
  14. Personally, I think there should be a mechanism for the COC holder who needs to evidence their knowledge and skills, via obtained via updates & their abilities via practical demonstration & theory test theses can be in part evidenced by subscription too of reading of industry updates /articles publication . inc magazines as for re assessment I believe NPTC & Lantra need to create a second higher tier of assessment. as regurgitating the current standard to an experienced operator is like asking grandma to suck eggs.. personally I wont see the benefit of that if you are safe and that needs evdencing I dont think attending a training session on its own would suffice ,,without some measure if its successful uptake by the candidate however a structure could be put in place where the assessor observes, a COC holder at work ,with a prior paper based tick box assessment for the academic stuff , not that I speak for FISA , Lantra or C&G Nptc but seems to be simples .... more cost effective and practical .. Iain
  15. Huge tree flattens cars after narrowly missing playground in exclusive London square | Mail Online
  16. lots of issues have been discussed . as I look at this I address the Why & the when So Why ,when you bought this did the issue not arise in any if needed pre purchase survey, as if mortgaged I would imagine the mortgage company would ask for an implications survey from an Arborist in line with advise from a building structural surveyor, with access to a geotechnical report which explores and identifys the types of soils [profile relevant to the property ] and any impact the trees might or might not have on the structure. As far as you are concerned we perhaps should look at what can be done ,, Your right to prune limbs / roots oversailing or under/ crossing your boundary has been mentioned this right is drawn that the works should not unreasonalby cause damage to the councils property [the tree ] indoing so . however , where the councils property [the tree ] is causing an actionable nuisance to a third party's property [ your house or fences ,lawns etc ] you have a right to do that which is reasonable to mitigate this, if and only IF there is no legal restriction / protection placed on the operation to that Tree TPO conservation or other.. however just because there is a nuisance , you dont have the right to ask for the trees removal, unless that is the least available option which will negate the actionable nuisance If pruning negates the Nuisance then thats all you can ask them to do at their expense ,but they might so NO So you might depandant on any reports you have feel the need to ask your insurer to engage in the discussion [ however be weary as insurers might see the risk to your property as being higher or lower and reflect this in your premiums Dont be tempted to do works yourself unless you are sure what you do is correct as any works if they cause damage to the councils tree can be seen as Criminal and willful damge So before doing anything a quick chat with the TO will resolve this ,, but where the nusiance and effects are more than Pruning will rectify I would recommend seeking qualified local advise. Internet discussion forums are really any use to point you in the right direction and and guidance should only be taken as such , as its your house and you are the person with the vested interest to seek a reasonable resolution.
