  1. good on ya for getting to where you are . as with everything , its your call, many wise words written above pros & cons , if its a bargain & too cheap to walk past buy it you can always sell it on. cash once spent cant be spent again, however kit can be used or hired out to make money back on that purchase, try and build a case for it, but if its a large garden ornament then maybe avoid it and spend on a more usable bit of kit. especially if your not flush with money or work
  2. You know me Paul full of it ........ ,, : good ideas that is .. .hahha the inspiration comes after 3 guys have phoned ARBSCHOOL over 4 days asking for help guidance and about our courses and a career change, lots for them to think about Where , to train what to courses to train in ,, What sector , utilities, forestry, amenity ,commercial, charity sector. how to find a job whether to be employed or even self employed . wages whether Uk , Europe ,States , Oz one issue raised is Why they cant use their re-settlement "Elcas" where they choose too.. ots to think about much to discuss

  5. Expect to be a bit nervous until you trust your gear , your feet tied up in ropes , till you get the technique and redirection of ropes slightly uncomfortable you'll tire as the day goes on, challenged taking stuff in, wobbly dealing with work at height exhilarated when you get it ! its a blast .. Iain

  7. it really isn't hard, the standards are really what Arb businesses should be doing anyway, that said , the cost of compliance to regulations can make getting to full compliance a long road, as everything in Arb is stupidly expensive. if you cant fully meet all the standards on first attempt there is i believe options to defer and improve on any weaknesses that you are still progressing, AA isn't what it was , its becoming much more inclusive and helpful to those seeking to improve their business standing and accreditations help you apply the ronseal test. i.e. I know I do it, but can I prove we do it > ?? if you apply that simple ethos you cant go far wrong. Paul is approachable , for a lancastrian ! PM him or email give it a go & attend the workshop, its free Iain
  8. cheaper isnt always best. perhaps its worth approaching from another tack ask the insurers what they are prepared recognise, Hse do recognise the suite of Chainsaw training National awards via Nptc city & Guilds & Lantra awards

  12. yep and the bloke pictured with his visor up ,whose holding the climber life line, which will route the descending off cut straight at him , will learn not to do it again !! and the climber will learn that climbing in jeans is quite a different experience to climbing in chainsaw pants
  13. YEP WE Do ,, no conflict ,clients either trust you or they don't some companies may push there luck and make recommendations to fill there contract basket ,but they'll get found out clients aren't stupid, clients might fall for it once but the word quickly gets around and a short term punt is along term recipe for disaster as the credibility of advise & service is shot to pieces , TPO and conservation applications are subject to external inspection and if you make a tit of your self, its soon known & the word spreads again anyone who disguises their actions could be seen as being deceitful , so be honest and play it as it is , the client can make their own mind up , some ask for example documents , but most don't, if companies. consultants try to blag their way through they can easily trip over

  21. Well its that time again Folks ,, be mindful of your works schedule , that the nesting season starts in 2 weeks time and through to the end of July frustrating for those for whom it has been a long hard winter but be aware fines and prosecutions do happen. ALL birds nests in construction or use are covered, for example pigeons included
  22. as ANDY says, some folks just rip people off, because they can ,, and customers don't know any better until its too late whether the industry can deter cowboys I seriously doubt not when customers keep employing them , cash & price is often king, qualifications, abilities , experience & quality of work are irrelevant as sadly these bring expense which is for some people too much to pay, Education of what is good practice to the client and the risks associated of not employing good trades people would be the key. but that is not likely to ever effectively happen especially in austerity britain
  23. thats a can of worms to open ,,, overheads costs, equipment profile what you've got & what you'll need , contacts & customers, infrastructure needs inc office IT support stuff, storage parking, staff ,insurance, how much £ you need to earn and what your realistically going too as the short fall will hurt badly, dont spend what you earn in the good times untill you know how bad the tough times are,
  24. solar panels
  25. I lent 2 of my spare control boxes to Landforce as they'd lost their plans ,, so not surprised they are vague they are redesigning these .apparently ,, saying that I lent them mine months ago, I have one more here what model version is yours the control boxes are of different types as they developed things I still have a mk5 box in the cupboard which is the main box ,not the slave with the buttons the originals had brains and switches all together in one box on the infeed hopper, later models had a button slave on the hopper with a separate underslung on to lower flywheel housing Iain
