  1. John What has to be remembered is those timings are trigger time only .. the best figures are those issued by the manufacturer in so far as the machine is maintained within their guidlines http://www.stihl.com/vib/english/documents/ALL_vib_calculator_Orig.xls http://www.stihl.com/vib/english/documents/R_Leaflet_Vibration_E(final)_2004_11_24.doc.pdf chainsawe havs.pdf
  2. A trainee does not a craftsmen make A good craftsmen does not always a businessman make The problem is multi layered Because the customer either doesn’t know what or who to employ Q What makes someone a tree surgeon ? A I don’t know lets look in the Yellow pages or, oh hang n I got a flyer I'll ring them Do we as an industry really know ourselves? " this qual or that qual or maybe that one too" The reason people have a go, is why shouldnt they. are too many encourage to start a business that they cant sustain ? I dont know however I do know that business is not easy in the good times & especially hard in economically difficult times The rogue element is a constant source of irritation to many posters on this forum As they seldom seem to get brought to book , therefore where is the instentive for the Rogues to comply as they seem to, with equal frequency fail to comply with statutory or other legislation and guidance. So what is the effect for the guys who are trying to comply have to fight in an uneven market place ? cost cutting to get work ? . a lack of work leading to short falls in cash flow we all know that a companys Infrastructure Costs £££ and that ultimately has to be repaid some how. Ultimately the squeeze will come unless something changes soon legislation & safety will not & should not go away , HOWEVER I believe that rules should not just be a piece of paper to be casually disregarded by the rogues & equally the words on that piece of paper, when acting as a benchmark or guideline should be proportionate to the role or task to which it relates. If we take this to a theoretical conclusion then could we see a result where we have 2 Types ? Those companies who are of sufficient size to have the fiscal & practical ability to comply with the ever expanding rules book & those who quite simply WONT .. Is that the Future ?

  6. Gents we can have as much legislation as we like ..... lawyers love the stuff they are after all the only ones who get money regardless of who actually wins or who more importantly is right, a fact often lost in legal argument, where words & interpretation of words play more of a role, somewhere enroute common sense has been replaced by £££££ After all our Mps are right according to their rules , but ..... ! a sad state of affairs all round in my book

  12. 17 June 2009 Home|News| Lewes walker hit by tree branch sues Environment Agency HortWeek.com 17 June 2009 An East Sussex woman who was hit by a falling branch while out walking is suing the Environment Agency for £300,000. Doreen Prior was knocked unconscious while out walking through popular Barcombe Mills, a walking site in East Sussex, after she was hit by a falling branch. She has accused the Environment Agency, which owns the land, of breaching its duty to protect the public by failing to identify and remove the dying ash bough. An Environment Agency representative told HW that no court date had yet been set for the High Court case. "This case is currently being looked at by our solicitors," the representative added.

  15. what makes people think its right to rip folks off, let alone an 82 yr old absolutely shocking ... lets hope this acts as some Deterrent though I doubt it .. We had a retired guy knock at our door late one afternoon None too happy he was accompanied by 2 angry burly looking fellas, either side of him Demanding to see the BOSS, after having had a door knocker oufit visit him. They started some work for him after convincing him that they were part of our company & where just in the area blah blah blah .. they proceeded to cut down some of his conifers in the back garden then asked for some monies as they needed to go & get a replacement for damaged parts of their chainsaw , the occupant obliged , they left leaving one tree partially worked on & a heap of brash in the gents garden , needless to say he has not seen them or his money £300 since. Van not logo'd or sign written etc . however the police were informed by me & the old guy. daylight robbery in my book
  16. A good post ,I would be interested to see the article do you have a link Plse ? the jailing may have been for the criminal act of : obtaining monies by deception rather than the pretense of a particular trades type. although I am sure many will applaude the result & comments of the detective concerned
