  1. N.o.s National Occupational Standards i'm intrigued who sits on this panel ? where does the industry representative voice come from ? HOWEVER this is only a preposed draft So Have YOUR say folks [email protected] ..
  2. what are the implications for employers liability If an accident occurs & a court hearing is held. the judge would take note of the AFAg guidance, this indicates that nptc units are the recognised standard. if however those Coc units are severed due to the releaseof the new update as is implied (if done without any transition period) where are employers & employees left ? is it not illegal to operate without Employers liability ? ( would any current El not be void if you knowingly operated with non valid Coc qualified staff ?) Big questions for so late in the day could this "training" not be replaced by current on going development or continued employment. after all a cert of competence is not a validation to professional industry skill, that takes time & No training package I have been privileged to see has attempted to deliver that, which Experience gained from working within the trade gives
  3. Chainsaw units previously achieved will continue to be valid after the revised Chainsaw Certificate of Competence units are released, provided regular refresher training has been undertaken the key word is Has past tense To what criteria How can this trainaing have been implemented if the criteria had not been given Do they mean continual use, industry practice or do they mean training if training By whom what are the implications for employers liability If an accident occurs & a court hearing is held. the judge would take note of the AFAg guidance this indicates that nptc units are a recognised standard if however those units are severed without a transition period where are employers & employees left ?
  4. As tpo applys to the trees a recent regulation change that requires an arb report to support the application for works made under the T&C the reaction wood seems to be forming over the wound, though An inspection should be sought if you are giving advice to the client oh & yep as the guys said Genus etc
  5. lets look at the simple logistics how many chainsaw operators on here 1500 - 2000 take most who will have 30 31 38 39 may have cs 32, woodchipper, stump grinder, pa1 & 6,mewp ua1 etc so lets take 1500 with an average of 6 COCs = 9000 retests / 3 yrs = 3000 re trains per annum just on here that equals 58 re trains per week every week no holidays or breaks thats just an ave guess of members on here alone, without taking into consideration the need to train Fe or HE students or new workers 2000 *8 Cocs / 3 year cycle on 5 day week without B/hols breaks = 102 re trains pw, week in week out. then factor the cost implication of down time & training costs Then factor in that those companys who comply & meet those implication still have to compete in the open market those shadier companies who dont comply with where we are know & dont seem to get caught or impuned ! We as an industry do need to develop. & I openly applaude that however A Coc is just that. Competance It is not reflective of industry experience, knowledge, commercial skill or speed Grand ma suckin eggs
  6. you could Contact Nptc @ stoneleigh +44 (0) 24 7685 7300 ask the question re revoking Coc s

  15. unfortunatley Anyone can generalise themself as a Tree surgeon if indeed they can alter the form of a tree There is no mandatory legal status or accreditation that makes you a tree surgeon or stops anyone from advertising their services as such However there are restrictions under how & if that work should be done Mhasaw, Puwer, Loler, Coshh, T&C plan act, ETc Etc
  16. 26 FEb 2009 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b007nlgd/upcoming titled rogues up ladders Matt Allwright witnesses hair-raising moments with a chainsaw as rogue tree surgeons get to work in Wales. Can he put a halt to their boyish abandon and reckless disregard for health and safety?

  18. An interesting slant there my friend If your employer is paying for the course & is paying your wages to attend the course to give you knowledge & accreditation that enables YOU to reasonably & dilegently perform your duties for your & others safety Then be grateful Accept the course & then carry out your duties within the guidance that you have been trained & then you wont have a problem Or you could refuse the course ,which is a resonable request & promptly pick up your P45 Your choice , ME Id be thankful to have a job with a good employer .
