Blimey! I have to do a full week to earn that seriously, is this based on your marital status bob?

    UK vs Nz

My wife has family over there, I have thought about moving. I wonder how hard it would be to set up your own arb business? I would think about shipping all my equipment out.
  3. arrr, thats good advice. Not seen many do it, or seen it taught. as Jamie said, getting your gullett shape right is crucial.
  4. easy peasy - and it was just 2 of us. we cut the whole lot down into the road, cut it all and dressed it out.(road closure in place) reversed the 8 wheeler up to the huge pile and threw it all back into the wood. My timber crane is rear mouted, so makes it great for that type of work. The 8 wheeler was getting a little bulky and long in the tooth, so I've just replaced it with a 6 wheeler. In my opinion, its more usefull than any other piece of kit, even the chipper.
  5. QUite cool, but this is uber cool
  6. Last emergency job I did, £2200 for 3 hours. that was 1 huge oak fallen into 1 huge beech over a main road. Whole lot cleared off site. IMO, most emergency work is not worth the bother unless you charge 'proper' money.
  7. Haha, Whats the story Balamory...
  8. Did tha' laaike that? [ame] [/ame]
  9. Oh well then, thats easy. 986.35 hours.
  10. Ah dont take me the wrong way skyhuk and bob. I thnk the Jensen is one of the nicest designed / finished chippers about - but the feed system is a throwback to the '70s.
  11. I hate the poxy feed rollers on Jensens, stupid undersized design, plus that stupid nylon cog in the drive gearbox, and one poxy motor to drive two rollers, and they're manky cast items that wear real easy, then cost £700 a piece to replace, they're mounted on pathetic little bearings, and have drive shafts for added wear. Its a shame, as Jensen make a real high quality chipper. As for the chipper paint wear, who can say? if its been fed sandy gorse or blackthorn, could be 150 hours, or a continuall diet of leylandii could be 1000 hours.
  12. Haha Tok, that was pretty funny.
  13. I've been here for 10 years. In the first month, I caught some lowlife scum trying to break into the workshop. I let them have both barrels over their heads, and set the dogs after them. Not been bothered ever since. I'm quite friendly with the local pikies, and they told me my place has a reputation of being owned by a homicidal nutter
  14. I used to work for Martin Vogel at Wolf Baumflege. edit: I just noticed your BaumWolf. Any connection? Martin Lived down near Shwabischhall (spp?), about an hour from Frankfurt.
  15. Just a tip on shipping containers, a gas axe (oxy acetalyne) is very quiet, and I can gas a container open in about 30 seconds. (this is the voice of experience. ) The way to prevent this is to have a lock box made out of stainless or boiler plate, as this would take about 1/2 an hour to gas through. Use a good quality padlock, as a cheap one can be melted in seconds.
  16. Nah, the its the mature ones that return. As for workng in germany, I used to go out to southern germany, Stutgart, Heidelburg, Frankfurt, Karlshrue and the Black forest. Maybe Treetx can pop by to give some contacts, as he spent a few years out there.
  17. PNW full wrap handle. Means you can use the saw either left or right handed.
  18. If I knew that patern were as good as OE, yes I would, without hesitation.
  19. Good point, but I always get the dimensions checked before they send them. How long does it take to say for example - '300mm wide, 100mm deep and 12mm thick, hollow grind' That is beside the point however. My point is that Saturns knives are of equal quality to OE knives. if you want to pay 3 times the price for your knives just in case you get the wrong set....
  20. Thats standard from the factory. the 141 is a 12" machine, about 2.7 tonnesweightand about 7 foot wide - might be a bit big for you... Heres a good used one if you want - click on used equipment, there's a 340 and a 240. http://www.listonequipment.co.uk/ooloop.php
  21. Interesting you should say that Tok, as on my own design of chipper, we offer it with an optional 4 1/2foot wide hopper - perfect for feeding all that knotty twisty stuff.
  22. expensive, but very very good quality build, tungsten carbide knife system, slightly weird ergonomics, built in belgium. bottom feed rollers are studded, and the chipper itself is bigger overall than it needs to be. I have the dealers details in the office, I'l dig them out for you.
  23. And let it out again in my front room...
  24. Go on then Tok, lets hear your views on the legendary Pink Floyd
  25. I see your point on the model numbers Hugo, But cant really see it being a major issue. Bob, Mike has said what needs to be said about the quality. Saturns knives are as good as OE knives. I have seen genuine blades shatter on machines. In real life the chipper is not 'designed around the blades' - the blades are no more important than 10 other major components.
