    I did hear something:cheers:
  2. The deal if I remember rightly is organized by Frans Smith and the NorCal chapter of the ISA. It included staying in cabins in the redwood groves, and lots of climbing. I'm thinking if a few wanted to go, we could book in with those guys and get a deal on the air fares. I've emailed frans to get a few more details. I reckon it would be pretty cool to have an arbtalk tour

Any 4x4 will get stuck in the wrong situation. And NO way would a landy have made it through the place where the Patrol got stuck in long way down. I have owned about 8 -9 landys, tricked up modified V8's and rangerovers. How many have you had Jay? Not one would I swap for my patrol. As for simplicity, I'll take Nissans 3.0 turbo intercooled engine over any crappy TD5 or 2.4Duratorque. I have simple LSD diffs, 4 speed auto, detachable roll bar and huge ground clearance. Beauty of the patrol, its built like a brick craphouse, has fantastic reliability, and is supremely comfortable.

Hahahha your 'avin a giraffe mate, I've owned dozens of Landy's, and love the green oval, but give me the Patrol anyday, or maybe a landcruiser - particularly if you intend on reaching your destination.... If you really want to see the difference, jack a patrol up and check out all the running gear compared to a landrover - the LR stuff is puny by comparison. When Ewan Mcgregor biked round the world, and down to cape town what was his support vehicle? Or what is the most commonly used 4x4 by the UN, Peacekeepers, Film crews, etc? The patrol even predates the Landrover...
  7. The most accurate way to gauge the hours on a machine is to look at the hour meter - and even thats not always correct. Anything else is just playing.
  8. thats very good value. Round here that would be at least 800,000K.
  9. I'm guessing its a 325 chain, needs a 3/16ths file, and go for 30 degrees.
  10. Every year, one of the ISA chapters organizes a visit up to the Giant redwoods, for recreational climbing. I nearly went, but it was a bit short notice. What I'm thiking, if I post this now, it might give a bit of time for an Arbtalk Posse to head out and do some giant redwood Climbing. Anyone interested?
  11. Great Idea, I'm going to start a thread.

haha. good advert but its not saying much, given that the old one was so asthmatic. If you want a proper 4x4, get a nissan Patrol
  14. I'll put a call in to Denny. Their new place is only 2 minutes off the motorway.
  15. I could nip over to ISC and get them to set it up correctly, then post pictures...?
  16. I always keep coming back to tunes from the wrongly titled 'triphop' era, when the southwest and bristol area produced the best music in the world. This is an iconic tune of an era, set to a very unusual Russian Vampyre film [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZsHNkAJBDU[/ame]
  17. TW250...? 100 hours...?
  18. got a contract to take out 80+ big manchester Poplar in a park. Pete Hain has been in helping me take some little tops... I managed to bring soem nice Island weather to Manchester too
  19. Its gotta be better than LRO
  20. Speaking of McGirlypants, this is him after a day subbing for me-
  21. Pecon, if your MEWp works for you, thats great. Personally, I think trying to take the risk out of this business is a bit like wrapping yourself in cotton wool. I enjoy the risk - it defines me as different to all the people around me. I like taking on the difficult trees just for the challenge. Its why I enjoy doing the icy black runs at 60mph in the alps, or throwing myself off a bridge on a rope, or climbing slate crags. You only live twice. once when your born, and once when stare death in the face.
  22. Lack of respect here, calm down a little.
  23. civil partnership ahoy!

Peter was telling me about that today. I thought pay was going up?
  25. Ditto. 18 years and never needed a mewp to do a tree. Have occasionaly used them for clearing cliffs of vegitation. Risk is what this job is all about.
