  1. I am looking to buy this Echo model but I am trying to find out what thickness of branch it will comfortably cut . The specifications state a tooth pitch of 35 mm and my local dealer claims this is the thickness it will cut. However, I'm not convinced he speaks from experience of using the machine. The user manual states it is designed to cut a maximum of 6 mm. Could this be a mistake? Can anyone who has used this machine help to clarify this matter?
  2. I have a little experience of sharpening, mostly using the Oregon Professional Filing Guide. I have not found this easy to use in that it is difficult to clamp at the correct height, and also pushing the file forwards with a steady sideways pressure is a problem. I was wondering if the Stihl Filing Kit would be better for me. Can anyone who has used the file holder and the file gauge recommend them or otherwise? Does the file holder keep the file at the correct height? Does anyone go along with the suggestion from 'Vertical Lmit" to use a file one size smaller than that given by the manufacturer? Thank you.
  3. The bar is too worn to show any useful information. According to the user manual, the original chain was a Stihl Rapid Super with a .325 inch pitch and a 30 degree filing angle. Hope this helps.
  4. I have bought a used chainsaw with a blunt chain. How do I identifiy which chain it is. The only marks I have found so far are 'Oregon' and '25". How can I find out what diameter of file is needed and what the cutter angle should be?
  5. Thank you all for the help. Plug is now out; problem solved. John
  6. Thank you for that reply. Am I right in assuming that the shroud is the plastic cover over the spark plug, and has 2 holes in it, one for the decompression button and one for a screw surrounded by rubber? If so, I have tried pulling on it but it seems very tight. What holds it in position? What is the purpose of the screw with rubber round it? John
  7. I am trying to get my recently aquired 2006 M 260 started and I need help in getting the spark plug out. In the instruction manual, it says: 'pull off the spark plug boot and take out the screw and remove the shroud'. There is no indication of the position of the screw. Is it the screw on top of the shroud which has a threaded hole in it and is set inside a rubber socket? Any help would be much appreciated. John
