  1. I feel sorry for Simon with all his staff on here, where's he supposed to go to moan about you all ? ;-)
  2. Didn't the older Fastracs have awful gearbox problems ? I nearly bought one but was waved off by a JCB mechanic. AT Osbourne would be the people to speak to if your dead set on a County or MB TRAC.
  3. Buzz

    New forum ?

I'm wondering what with the contirbution Stevie makes to this forum which must take up 20 hours a day mate i think he should have his own sub-forum or Shreks wee forum ? What do you think ?
  4. Loving the work positioning Joe ! Good effort lad
  5. Matt in my experience it was always best to have as newer machine as possible as well suited to the task as you can get. I'd avoid county's because they are all getting on a bit and most of the ones I've seen you can barely see where your going for the hydraulic oil pissing in your eyes ! Better to spend 600.00 a month of finance on a 30k-40k forwarder than 3k every few month on repairs. Downtime is what will kill you on those contracts so reliability should be up most in your mind. Obviously I have exaggerated the figure !!
  6. Do you walk alot of cats Peter ?
  7. We saw that Landy blating round the M42 near the services on Friday afternoon. Looked very smart.
  8. Not seen that before, not sure i'm impressed on some aspects but it's pretty acurate lol
  9. Yes that would work fine mate. I had a little winch on a dirty great big Valmet.
  10. I love that Stevie, Cheers ! On second thoughts mate you keep it, it'll be perfect for towing your wee chipper into those tight back gardens
  11. Do you have a gardner ? Has he been strimming around the base of the trees ? Hard to tell from those pictures but it looks like they have been strimmed round damaging the cambium. Excavation works are worthy of consideration but it's very hard to say without seeing the site. There are guys on this forum near you best to get somebody to come out and take a look.
  12. Got to back Ed on this one, I can't imagine anything worse than a Unimog based skidder in the woods. I ran two Unimogs a 1000 and a 1200, i originally bought them for whole tree chipping works on conservation sites. I soon came to realise that moving one around in the woods is expensive, they don't have the necessary guarding so pipes etc get trashed and are a real arse to replace. Maneuvering is also very tricky due to a lack of all round visibility. All these reasons and i darn sight more are why i purchased my Valmet tractor based forwarder. Matt I would buy purpose built equipment not some hashed together compromise, why can't you use a forwarder on this site ?
  13. Hands down my favourite here. Very nice looking. I'd straight copy Bob's lol
  14. Stevie, I've seen you cards mate they look cack Joking
  15. Ben looks like it to me but i'm not an ident expert. With regard to your other question, I know of a group of 200 year old plus copper beeches with very mature meripilus growths om that have no sign of crown die back at all. They are however in a parkland setting and will be retained until the collapse. It depends entirley on the location as to what remedial means if any can be taken before suggesting felling.
  16. Be careful if you skid beech out and you haven't alot of prior experience. The clients won't be happy if you damage the remaining crop.
  17. Mike if my back wasn't so bad i'd chew your arm off...if you still need someone in a month or so i'd love to come over and drink coffee with cement dust in it with you
  18. I have a problem with this thread..... I now have nightmares about little green chippers, wherever i look in a dream there's a little green chipper lurking in the corner. In fact i think every picture on arbtalk has a little green chipper hiding in it somewhere, a bit like where's wally lol :tongue001:
  19. Going back to what Dave said about Poplar.. burnt nothing but poplar last winter it was all about a year old. It makes fantastic kindling as well. I had never considered Alder until i saw this thread but i guess i've always tried to burnt it wet on bonfires etc.
  20. I had an old second hand Farmi which was a great winch, very basic but it did the job. Would be ideal for firewood, cheap and effcient. Igland are the bees knees but quite expensive. You should find lots of Farmi kit about second hand. Corwen Forestry in N Wales do a good range of spares.
  21. Yeah Mr Ed bollocked me in the office earlier and told me i was talking poop lol... Roof mounts don't have the reach i found when i owned my own Valmet. Having said that it was the single best bit of kit i ever owned lol
  22. Must have been a badly specc'd Valmet then !!
