  1. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure Martins have been chucked off after a nasty incident involving a train and a tracked chipper !. I'd much prefer to work for Tillhill over Fountains, Fountains owed me over 30k for 9 months.
  2. Ash makes great planking, saw someone with an Ash floor from tree surgery timber the other week. Very smart
  3. Fair enough mate ! and i bet both machines new would cost less than a diesel 6" chipper.
  4. That is a great bit of kit ! I like that video...hmmmmm i see an M400 being added to Ed's fleet shortly LOL Would be great for the guys on little domestic jobs. I bet you'd cry if the customer changed there mind and wanted the chip taken of site LOL My main issue with these is if you have to lug all the logs out the front you might as well drag the brash as well.

    Ocd customer

Now working in N Wales I have noticed a DISTINCT difference in customer expectations on a clean and tidy job. In surrey that scenario in the first job is standard practice, it was normal to be on your hands and knees picking up bits of conifer etc. plus hooking small conifer hangers out of annual plants etc. All this just reinforces your professional nature and may well get you repeat custom with this 'difficult' client. I'm sure you have easy days which off set the OCD nature of this one ? I only had 2 non-paying domestic clients in Surrey in 8 years, both of those were small jobs. It's tempting to do something rash but as Simon says rarely effective and will bite you in the arse long term.

    Standard practice here.
  7. I love the way it changes from grapple skidder to clam bunk forwarder !
  8. I agree with you both, a happy balance is what's needed. I had supplier accounts with do very good timber merchants who helped me no end. VISA is just the same I suppose lol
  9. I found it made the whole experience very painless mate. I was often buying thousands of pounds of materials, helps when you have more than one job on the go as well. Garth I agree a mtr rate is excellent on that kind of job. I did 1.5 miles o stock fencing for SWT on a day rate. Made a fortune ;-)
  10. Some good advice here, I never price per metre for domestic work only commercial. Get the cost of materials, add 20%, how long do you think job will take ? add labour. There's your price. You WILL need a credit account with a fencing supplier, I never ask for money for materials up front as it looks unprofessional. On occasion I have got the clients to pay for materials direct if it was from a different supplier. You won't get tree work money but I charge it out at 150.00 per man per day. Avoid per mtr prices as it'll bite you in the arse one day. Good luck.
  11. In dire need of a re-pipe it would seem LOL !! :-)
  12. Zubat is my favourite but occasionally a Gomtaro for very fine reductions. Coupled with a sawpod they are fantastic. Tried a few of the cheaper models but they fall apart, only downside to the Silky's is the price of a replacement blade. I'd be looking at buying a box of 20.
  13. I've decided i hate you now Matt
  14. :001_tt2:Your obviously doing well looking at the size of that belly:001_tt2:
  15. Yep no problems with mixing it into your chip pile. Combined spaces and burning on an open fire are the only things to worry about tbh.
  16. Pre-start meeting is next Wednesday ;-)
  17. Sorry 28k starting price then lol, yes petrol engine. Still have the dealers details in an email if anyone wants to buy one ;-)

    poplar

Makes excellent firewood when dry and even better kindling. I used some ony wood burning stove last winter that had been seasoned for about 8 months off the ground and covered.
  19. Andy, I ran a BB when I worked for AHS, I had generic risk assessments emailed to me and the BB opened it as like a mini .xls file which i could file in. It sounds to be as if you haven't got the latest OS on your BB or it just plain isn't compatible. With regards to the earlier touch screen phone versus sawdust etc comment. I now have an Iphone and although I was dubious at first I have to say in the right case it's survived The Lakes jobs, and domestic arb etc. It's streets ahead of everything else for usability IMO. I even have Tom Tom sat nave on it now which I downloaded for 45.00 as soon as it came out. Perhaps an online search for BB software is your only solution Andy.
  20. Do you find the pins are to short ? Have you hit the valve block with timber yet ? They seem to be the only vulnerable bits from the videos i've watched.
  21. Exactly, they key is to identify a need or niche and take the plunge. I know of several contractors who invested heavily in tree clearance machinery at a time of great uncertainty. Played the market right and are now pulling out of this area after decades of being the only people with this kit.
  22. Fine thanks mate, just got two big accreditations and priced over 500,00 worth of work in the last 4 weeks. What about you ?
  23. I'll say ! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7vrNENdx_Q]YouTube - Alstor 8x8 utility vehicle[/ame]
