  1. You'll also be able to claim back the VAT on equipment you've purchased going back at least a couple of years (I think).
  2. Search under users for 'Bob' PM him and ask nicely he sent me a list via email about a year ago which had a lot of info in, wood weights, densities and specifications wet and dry.
  3. a) Having your own transport is a start, I'm not knocking the guy but i think as a bare minimum you need an estate car or a small car and a trailer ! b) Me to but that was back when that was seen as being ok. c) I do, quite often in fact
  4. It needs to be a statement of policy rather than a comprehensive list. PM me your email address and I'll let you have a peep at ours

  6. I'm not saying this is legal BUT I had a fixed tow hitch braced back to the chassis which I used to tow a 10 ton ag trailer. I did have an air over hydraulic conversion for the brakes as well. This is the cheapest way way to do it. The best as Stevie says is a hydraulic / air pick up hitch. I later had one from Vos which worked well. The first option requires using a highlift jack to reverse onto the trailer.
  7. Very reliable I'd agree, quite a cost on a small job though.
  8. If you have no transport at all and you can't even cut it up small and stick it in a car I'd doubt the professionalism to your clients of the whole operation. If you can't overcome this small hurdle I would look at approaching local tree surgeons, pass them the jobs for a percentage off the top until you are better equipped to carryout this work.
  9. Have you looked on earborist.com ? Might be your best bet. Good luck.
  10. Get in contact with AT Osbourne they are not desperatly far away and usually have a reasnoble selection. PTO chippers are pretty cheap new so what's your budget ?
  11. Yeah Atkinsons bodies are ok, you will need to budget getting it properly sprayed. What they send them out in is cack.
  12. Crikey Liam that doesn't bare thinking about mate ! Mend soon ! Did this happen on your last day with Simon ?
  13. Maybe pop into Sparsholt and ask around ?
  14. Pretty much all LA work is framework agreements tendered for every 3 years. Local Parish councils are worth contacting though, I have done very well out of them in the past.
  15. The job in question was a large landscaping job. We were only on it for 3 weeks. Luckily I had invoice finance running so the bank did the pestering not me. I got paid 75% of the balance within 10 days of completion. Worth bearing in mind if your pursuing work with the bigger clients. Stage payments is the way forwards and is what I do now for jobs longer than 2 weeks.
  16. Sorry mate got sucked off topic with my last post. I'd avoid Botex as I've seen them shear off a 3 point mount. A farmi would be ideal or if you want to save money hire in a small 360 and buy your own grapple to stick on it.
  17. If it's for occasional crane feeding a grapple on a small excavator maybe the way to go for you. I would be very wary of crane feeding a hand charged chipper with a roof mount as you can't see in the feed hopper. Very easy to knacker the motors. I crane fed a TP230 with a roof mounted Botex 560TL on a Valmet 8000. I did this for 2 weeks 12 hours a day. I wouldn't recommend it mate ! Depending on the size of the contract and whether you want to adapt or invest a tracked chipper with it's on crane might be a viable option. Usually (well always) factory mounted crane options on chippers are very expensive.
  18. So to sum up this thread, It's not the size that matters it's what you do with it ! LOL :-)

    Ocd customer

I think with experience you get a feel for those that will be difficult at quotation and make an educated guess where to go with it.
  20. Nice ! Been on call but nothing came in
  21. Maybe Ed but have you seen the state of some of the trucks on the road ? Overloaded wagons are a real hazard. Tommer are you getting mixed up between Highways Agency Officers patrolling the motorways and VoSA ? VOSA are usually in MPV's pulling trucks into weighbridges and service stations for inspection. VOSA can request you to stop, Highways Agency Officers can't but will get straight onto the old bill if they suspect an offence. Most police officers I know aren't to fond of the HAO but acknowledge they take weight off of them. Personally I think they do a good job, motorists definatly seem better informed about motorway protocol when they breakdown etc and there's real evidence that the motorways flow better now as there are always officers on set sections of Motorway. Just my tuppence.
  22. Dave, rodger that. Stevie me to, Old bill aren't the problem, the new aggresive VOSA is. I'm sure Andy will do what's best for him.
  23. If it's registered as a crane Dave it can be run on red. Again musn't carry a load.
  24. I love it Andy ! eBay bargin ?
  25. That's a bit rough mate, you know the situation.
