  1. I got annoyed with one client who had "forgotten" to pay me,despite having an invoice) and wrote a very nice and polite letter to her (seriously:001_smile:) thinking this would prompt her into paying. Well, it worked! She paid up straight away, hand delivered infact, with the snottiest letter, stating that "we always pay our dues, always" Then I spoke to a few people after, and it turned out that they were seriously struggling financially, the development business they owned was in dire straights, the financial advice business he ran was struggling too, the mortgage on their 1.1million pound house was in arrears. i have since declined work there, I dont need the hassle, and I dont need them to leave me in the lurch when they run into their next bit of trouble. Ya live and learn, and you can never know what's happening in their rivate lives.
  2. Once again, foul language is becoming an issue, posts containing anything in breach of the rules will be deleted not just the offending words. Check the rules for posting guidance if you are unsure.
  3. I dont think its much nanny state in this case, I remember when I was a kid a whole family getting killed in a house fire across the way from our house, the fire brigade thought a stray spark caused it. This was before modern fire prevention and precautions. I'd hate to see or hear of this ever happening again. Our kids had it drummed into them that if the smoke alarm goes off, get each other out of the house by the front door, or jump from their bedroom windows if that wasnt possible. We always shut stair doors (downstairs) to keep the stairway and door as safe as possible.
  4. Cleaned/replaced spark plug?
  5. have you left fuel in the tank for a period of time, if so it could have gone stale, thus will not fire?
  6. I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like a 16" bar and chain, .050 gauge will fit your saw, if so Oregon do this part no 160 RND D009 for the bar. This is if its indeed a 160s. (I honestly dont know this saw)
  7. Fair play to you monkey boys, shame a few more out there cant take the initiative to get off their backsides and this country wouldnt be wallowing in the mess its in today. Looks like you had a good day:thumbup:
  8. There is only one big saw (Stihl 090), the rest are just everyday saws:thumbup:
  9. I was admiring the work, and asked who did it, and the lady said my lad had recommended you two. Top stuff:thumbup1: next time I pop in the plant centre I'll grab a one or two of your cards to hand round.
  10. Top tip, only use right handed climbers, no inconvenience:thumbup:
  11. You were doing well with this, till you mentioned my name, and working at such a time of day that the sun could be setting:confused1: I never work at such a silly time of day (posted Monday 6/9/10 at 12.35pm and finished:thumbup:) Actually Steve had finished his 7trees by 3.30pm, the sunset was 6.30pm and you were struggiling to get your 3rd tree finished, a bit of haste, didnt look down or shout a warning tut tut
  12. Some of my clients have had their gardens landscaped by Gadd Bros, and I must say their standards are just as high on private work as they are on their show gardens. Keep up the god work Jay & Will:thumbup:
  13. Or you could just buy Stihl fuel cans and save the hassle:001_smile: handy tip for those with the Husky cans though, cheers:thumbup1:
  14. If there is no reply, you dont go, simple. I try to keep smaller jobs to fit in odd days where postponements could make things awkward. To go in to someones property without permission is trespass, to cut a tree on their property without permission is criminal damage, with only your word against theirs, you'd be on a very sticky wicket legally. Flowers and a bottle of wine go along way as an apology.
  15. If your PAYE they'll get it back, like it or not. Money is stopped at source, before you see it. They just adjust your tax code accordingly.
  16. As said, ring ahead. Sorry, not what you want to hear.
  17. Bad news for some http://www.marketoracle.co.uk/Article22429.html but what a blunder, with these guys in charge the economy would be in even a worse state than it is now
  18. Just wondered, couple of Danarbor guys, truck and chipper, I dont have a patch anyway:001_rolleyes:
  19. Morning Alex, were you working in Bacton yesterday doing a roadside hedge?
  20. check out http://www.northerntooluk.com I know they did them (have one from them) though the spike on the cant hook needs attention as it isnt the best.
  21. There was a very recent case involving a TPO tree local to me and Steve, nd we both know the tree surgeon, IIRC the fines came to around 25k. In this case everyone was aware the tree was TPO'd, and it was ignored.
  22. Cant comment on the latest offering from Stein, but i've just replaced my last pair of Steins after 2years of every day use, and they arent totally worn out but wont be up to another winter.
  23. I always invoice on completion, unless prior arrangement (such as one chap who pays when he gets harvest pay) or the odd larger contractor type job (not many) This saves them "forgetting" to send a cheque, if they are out, the invoice states t&c's as "By return, within 14days", I've had no complaints about this, and to date only one dragging their heels to pay, but they got a friendly reminder and the cheque came with a nice apologetic letter.
  24. Will any of the retailers be having a set-up to "try out" the saws, as per Silky and Cutting Edge? This is really handy to get a feel for the type of saw you wish to buy.
  25. Could try learning to use things properly, just so cack-handed Pete:001_rolleyes:
