  1. Self-set siccies?......I doubt it. As foreman of the Jury, I'd call for acquittal for the tree surgeon, his judgement was impaired due to strong mitigating circumstances and a love for his wife. the landowner should receive the maximum possible sentence for breaching TPO regulations, and 6months inside for drug-dealing. The T/O is severely reproached for TPO-ing such horrible trees in the 1st place, making a farce of planning regulations with a total lack of foresight
  2. I was gonna say that Mr Slack!! Nice pics and kit out in the autumn sunshine there Ace:thumbup:
  3. Hope I read you right, get your chainsaw tickets, and better stil aerial rescue too, and if you can afford it the chipper ticket will be an added bonus. whether or not there is work available in your area I couldnt say, but having basic tickets will make you more useful to people. You dont say what line of work you're from, but a good physical core strength is useful in what can be a demanding job, hard on the body, but good luck with the future:001_smile:
  4. Oh you are a tease Mike:biggrin:
  5. Have a word with the landowner, I'm sure he'll be pleased that someone cares
  6. Nice to put a face to the name at last!! I did plastering before i got into treework, its certainly hard graft and gets monotonous esp when plastering out new estates. Its going to be tough to get into this job at the minute, lots doing it and under-cutting each other. Good luck though:001_smile:
  7. I o wonder how much adrenalin a 15foot Ailanthus can generate though:001_rolleyes:
  8. the issue here is the fact that he cant get the trousers past his thighs, so I think that with the extra all around protection adding material bulk. If he were to try a pair of Type As there would be less bulk to hinder the pull-up-ability of the trousers, and surely some protection would be deemed safer than none?
  9. I think it was a days money for 2hrs work Nice to see you back again Cerne
  10. I would want to be free-moving, so I tend to agree with Skyhuck. If proper fitting type Cs werent available, would your trainer not allow Type A's in exceptional circumstances?
  11. I know a very large lad through a local college needed some type Cs, i think FR Jones (side banner here) got him sorted. Hope this helps.
  12. Test post
  13. Has she been rumaging through your secret stash of mags again:001_tt2:
  14. 5'4" and 17stone of pure lard here:001_smile:
  15. I suppose helping these unfortunates must have benefits. Most of them will do what they are told without question, drag stuff about all day, and clean the dead flies off the inside of the windscreen with their tongues, and you probably even qualify you for govt subsidies to get them back to work. Win-win situation for you:thumbup:
  16. Going by your other posts, you're new to this job. Hard graft on the ground will help you trim up, get on a diet if the motivation is to become a climber.
  17. Blimey, do they let that sort out into the community now, these govt cut-backs are getting ridiculous:001_smile:
  18. I can highly recommend a rigging course to anyone who struggles to understand the basics of modern rigging gear. It isnt that difficult or complicated to understand and will serve you well whether climber or groundie. What it will do is help you work safely and efficiently, and have a basic understanding of SWLs etc. Treevolution and Kingswood training offer these courses. We stopped using natural crotches and taking wraps around the trunk in the mid-90s, and thank goodness, it takes a lot of the guesswork and therefore risks out of the equation. I do feel there is a lot of over-complication of the info, which may seem daunting to some, but if you learn the basics first, then take on the physics in bite-size pieces it gradually all makes sense. Not that I'm an expert.
  19. A veritable feast there Tony:eating: Seems all the puffballs around here are dormant, or the land use has changed, shame cos they great nosh wiith a curry paste and fired in butter. Hmmm I see Amanita rubescens is only edible when cooked!!
  20. Found this on an old elm stump
  21. I'm glad its not just me finding this, as I've said before, I take care of my kit religiously. I treat no saw differently whether Stihl or Husky, and have purchased from various different suppliers over the years, yet Husky come bottom when its down to the nuts and bolts retention. I'd just ask that they look into this issue and see if there is something that they can do, from the production line, to sort it out. Or is it unreasonable for me to ask this?
  22. What worries me more than the colour/brand/diameter of my rigging gear, is the complete conflict of opinions between those "in the know" who are selling, and testing, and advising us. Surely the theory is black and white on these matters, and surely it is dangerous when people start moving into the "grey areas", be they retailers or inspectors? Surely you should all be singing from the same hymn sheet?
  23. We have a bank Holiday weekend this weekend, a lot of people are away in hols. Plus they dont always want you in their gardens with sharps with kiddies around. I wouldnt fret about it, just get out and about handing out flyers, cards and so on.
  24. I think the plain one is good enough, unless your wood is frozen. I have 2 of the plain slappies and they do me fine:thumbup:
