    Torture

Nasty, luckily its not as bad as shingles..... or man-flu:001_smile:
  4. According to my tenancy handbook, all trees are under the ownership and responsibility of the Council, permission must be sought before cutting or removing them, and a suitably qualified and insured contractor must be used.
  5. Here is the LAW on redundancy entitlements: Entitlement to redundancy pay : Directgov - Employment You can also search through that site to check whether or not it was done legally. Tbh if I saw an employee had posted on the internet that he was going to leave and set up as s/e, I'd be looking for his replacement asap anyway.
  6. Yep, perfect opportunity to go down the self-employed route now:thumbup:
  7. Nice one, what a result:thumbup: So now your not "One of those people who have never won anything in their lives" Lost your cherry with style there
  8. Do you not have those wee skidsteer contraptions out there that move HUGE pieces of timber about the yard? Surely that would have pulled her down nicely?
  9. Ummmm, I was hardly gullible as I recognised Axmen as garbage, I was saying that this was my only experience of the US way. I have done several hung-up and wind-blows in my time, and never would consider using your technique then, and certainly not in the future. I would not consider it a safe working practice, and certainly would not encourage anyone else to use it, either in the workplace, or here at Arbtalk.
  10. I understand that the USFS is currently re-writing and reviewing all of its training and manuals as they havent been reviewed for more than 30years, so perhaps this is one of those out-dated practices? My only experience of the US way is watching the tripe that is Axmen, and seeing the unnecessary risks taken on there makes me cringe, the standard of Health and Safety seems deplorable, and seeing your video here demonstrating this technique does nothing to make me feel any different.
  11. I did get a "special" price thanks to TCD (Jon) from a shop down his way in Plymouth. I think Echo said they retail for around 330 +vat, as its near the end of season may be some cracking deals around now. here is a picture of Excalibur the Echo, a stunning work of art and craftsmanship, truly worthy of the name:thumbup:
  12. Some mate Ad. Has always happened, and will continue to happen, just have to move on. Not worth the stress.
  13. Well, thanks for all the feedback. I believe I have found the Holy Grail of trimmers Cue drumroll............. Ladies and Gentlemen I give you.............. The Echo HCR171ES :congrats: This machine has met all my original requirements, in particular the vibration issue, but also has a beautiful quality cut, a good balance, a rotating back handle. Very ergonomic design. Thanks to Jon (TCD) for his recommendation, and indeed sourcing the machine for me, then arranging delivery. Top bloke:thumbup: Of course, the quest for the perfect machine never ends.....what to look for next? We'll see.
  14. Chipperguy, welcome to the forum. I saw this prototype at the show and barely looked at it. Why? My mate, who I was with, is a Landy fanatic and comes over all unnecessary when he sees something like this. Mad! So I try not to encourage him too much. What I do like about this trade, is that we come up with ideas that help make our lives easier, such as yours. With the feedback on here, I'm sure you'll end up with a successful product that will serve the Utilites market well. Good luck with the project:thumbup1:
  15. Needed one hand for the camera:thumbup:
  16. In most cases, you need people who have trained to use a saw safely and efficiently, whether felling in woods, in a forest, or up in the tree. Without the basics, the staff are useless, they will not earn the money. Its not rocket science, its not neuro-surgery, its cutting trees with a powered saw. Yes, further knowledge is beneficial to both the employer and employee alike, and hopefully standards will continue to rise as they have done for the last 20years or so, but we do need a basic benchmark/industry standard as an indicator of skills and training, and that happens to be NPTC.
  17. So what are you "practically instructoring" in? If its not NPTC, how many do you think will attend? It may seem wrong to have a dependency one one format of tickets, yet its got t be easier for employers to know what those tickets have covered. If you have too many systems in place, it will just dilute down the quality. I see you've now changed your signature, so is the "practically instructoring" part a thing of the past, or did you not want to be part of a system you strongly disagree with?
  18. Bit drastic for a nose job, he needs a better plastic surgeon, scalpels make cleaner cuts
  19. Haha that should endear you to a future employer:biggrin:
  20. In all the time I've done this job, and time I've spent on this forum, I have yet to see a job advertised that does not ask for NPTC units. Other certs of competency are not considered.
  21. I think you had the right approach Phil. If you fly into one, go off at the deep end, they just see it as a challenge to be beaten. I like the "disappointed" approach, it weighs far more heavily in their minds for far longer. I expect a call, or a text, from my 19year old to let me know where he's going and what he's doing, just so we dont worry when we hear of an accident or incident, and after all, he lives in my house and I expect the courtesy of knowing whether or not he's coming home or not. Its probably a tougher call with girls, I'd worry far more I suppose.
  22. Does the key disarm the immobiliser? If so perhaps the battery in the key is running flat. Have dropped keys also, this can slightly move the battery so it doesnt contact and deactivate the alarm/immob, Hope this helps
  23. I really take my hat off to the pole-climbers, absolutely awesome climbs whatever your times. Good spectator sport too:thumbup:
