  1. Aaargh every clock in the house says something different
  2. Thats interesting re; the biodegradable plastic, when I asked the rep, he seemed surprised that this even came up, then the Swedish girl said it was in the pipeline. Seemed strange to me that a company wishing to be more environmentally friendly with the content of their capsule would not have considered the potentially 1000's of pieces of plastic left in the environment for all eternity:confused1:
  3. Nice teardrop shape there (saw) but that choke looks a tad vulnerable, whats the price on them?
  4. Sweet:thumbup1:
  5. I think most will at least worry that they are going to make a good impression, and be able to please the new company they are subbing to. I worry even now over new clients, will they be happy, will they pay, how do I compare with other companies and so on. Its what keeps you on your toes, keeps your eyes on the ball and makes it all work like clock-work. I think the day you stop worrying/caring is the day your standards fall. Dont be cocky, but be quietly confident in your own abilities, and do your best today, tomorrow and treat every day as if its your 1st, subbies are easy to replace.
  6. Most excellent thanks Nick:thumbup1:
  7. Just asked if she was there, and wasnt, but she asked if your 1st name is Andrew?
  8. I wonder if its on Skinflint (Freeview) Quest ch38 as well?
  9. I would buy a GB for a larger saw, they are far more durable than the others. A friend has a 4foot GB on his 088, less flex in the bar than other bars.
  10. I see a whole new market out there:001_smile: Stein chipper covers anyone?
  11. Heres some pics of the "Wood Sale & Fair" and the gardens of Ickworth House. There was a tree surgery demo going on as well, carrying out a heavy reduction of a horse chestnut. The Stumpery was interesting, larger than the small amount I photographed, and far too many interesting trees to shoot! cracking weather always helps too
  12. The wood sale is of milled timber, I'll stick some pics up shortly:001_smile:
  13. Looks good Burrell, wonder if my sister and brother-in-law were there? Cant remember what tractors they plough with now though.
  14. I heard you were always premature:biggrin:
  15. For those not quite up to speed with QTRA Quantified Tree Risk Assessment Welcome to the forum Mike. Opinions are like backsides, everyone has one, and I'm sure at some point another member will pipe up and praise the QTRA, you have to take the rough with the smooth to a certain extent here. If there is constructive criticism, then you may benefit from it too. Some here do choose to use a nom de plume, and that is their choice, perhaps you could use this platform to inform people, take the positives rather than the negatives.
  16. Though I should hope common sense would prevail within companies, and reputable ones would not even ask the employee to breach the rules, unfortunately there are some who would. Obviously the original poster has concerns on this matter, and in this case perhaps he should insist on having the relevant paperwork with him. I (when working for companies) have always had all paperwork for the job in a file with me, even if its just to satisfy the nosey neighbours, so it is not unreasonable to expect the employer to let you know everything about the jobs that you are carrying out. I have been frequently asked "Do you know that tree is TPO'd?" How unprofessional does it look if you just grunt back a "No" or "Dunno"?
  17. If you read the law regarding Tpo's, it clearly states "Anyone, who in contravention of a TPO: cuts down, uproots or wilfully destroys a tree..." etc, the term "anyone" would be applied in a court of law, and surely it would be down to the prosecution to prove the guilt of the party concerned, far easier to hit the employer and tree owner than a humble employee. But it states "Anyone" so do not assume as an employee you would be safe from conviction. Here is a link to the law on the matter, so you can make your own minds up. Ch 10 covers the penalties http://www.communities.gov.uk/documents/planningandbuilding/pdf/tposguide.pdf Sorry to repeat lendahands post, but this is quite important, it would not be for us to pick the bones out if things went wrong, but a court of law, personally I have never heard of an employee being prosecuted either. Interestingly, I know of one company who applied to thin H Chestnut under TPO regs, no problem, but they hadnt applied to install cable bracing (non invasive) and the TO ticked them off because this should have been in the spec on the application, as it altered the dynamics of the tree, funny old world.
  18. Look closely for infestation of scale insect too. These little blighters dont seem to move, look for masses of little "scales" on the new growth. They suck the sap until it dies back. Their faeces look like a sooty deposit. If it is these, treat with a spray such as Provado Ultimate Bug Killer, its systemic and effective. Or it could just be too closely trimmed, but do some detective work if you can.
  19. Good luck Cerne:thumbup1:
  20. Though re-iterating whats already been said, here's another idea. Why not ask for a copy of the consent letter to carry on site with you, not for your benefit but as proof to enquiring members of the public that everything is being done by the book. I'd point out to him that there are indeed hefty fines handed out for blatant transgressions of the planning laws, and you are looking out for his best interests. Its not always what you say, but the way its said.
  21. The chap did say,but I cant remember, they are available in the BTS shop in Needham Market. What I liked about the idea is the ease of handling, no mixing up/risk of spillage etc, oh and you still require PA1/PA6 to use it. I did ask if the plastic cartridge is bio-degradable, and that is the next stage of development. Apparently (according to the sales guy) many larger rail companies now insist on this product due to its precision of application, you can even treat stumps in a water course safely.
  22. I think the fact that both of you have independently reviewed your latest purchases, and given totally honest opinions, shows the impartiality of this forum. Tbh, when I saw Darrens thread, my heart sank, as the boots are supplied through one of the forums sponsors. But this is just the kind of feedback that we dont get with magazine reviews, and this is instant. Have moved both threads together as one to give a balanced review.
  23. Just a thought, their idea of tidy may differ from yours. They can probably find what they need in the yard in the dark, walk straight over to an item and lay their hands on what they need, to some thats "tidy". Are you being an awkward landlord? NO, its your land, and it reflects your business, so in future, perhaps tighter terms and conditions in the tenancy, maybe you could review this at the end of the financial year when reviewing the rental fee. Also make it clear that if you have to incur costs in putting the yard straight this will be added to their rental costs.
  24. English @ Ecoplug Sweden AB I was looking at these at BTS today, and spoke the sales guy about them. They seem to be a safe and environmental way to kill stumps with glyphosate. Does anyone on the forum already use them, and your thoughts please.
