  1. Bugger could be deemed offensive by some, though at best its just vulgar. As a mod here, I personally would let it go. Bastard is not a swear word, but use it in its correct contest, not to offend someone. Common sense has to prevail here, and we (mods) are not hear to police every last word, but it does get a bit much when people try to bend the rules. Just bear in mind that others may not wish to see bad language.
  2. Its not just when you're sawing you need your boots on. My mate was unloading in the dark last night, dropped the tailgate to tip off some large beech rings, and one about 2foot across landed on his big toe. He'd slipped off his boots earlier and put on some trainers, and now has a very black foot and broken toe.
  3. Neil I might have found some part time work for you if interested. It will involve some planting around Easter, and some fencing over the winter, the work wil be in the Mid-Suffolk area.may be some other stuff too. The work is not for me, though I may be involved too.
  4. We've been over this before:001_rolleyes:
  5. Spoke to Steve today, should be along too now:thumbup:
  6. All are welcome in here, and at least by stating your level of competence with a saw we can advise you (which is what you are after anyway) Just remember, saws cut flesh quicker than wood, boiler suits dont stop saws. But cross-cutting is fairly basic stuff, check your footing, click on the chainbrake when you're not cutting or better still turn off the saw. Keep your workspace clear of debris, and ring the trunk as described above. Dont rush, and concentrate on the job in hand. When you've finished cutting, come back on here and let us know you're still in one piece.
  7. To fit 2150 model, I think there may be a Husky part that matches (off a husky 350 maybe?) as its made by EM, also require the LH screw. I may be wrong here but this may be the part no 503 98 00 (on the underside/chain side of handle) If you stock this or have one in the back of your shed, please let me know and we'll take it from there.
  8. I now do a written RA regardless of whether or there are 5 or more on site. Belt and braces even when there are 2 or 3, so important to know location who does what etc etc, and easier than trying to verbally remember everything on site, and no one can say you didnt say.
  9. It may be advisable for you two to discuss this via pm?
  10. I was going to say that, he'd just have chipped a couple of bricks away, stuck in some timbers and lit a fire, no fuss...no hassle I was a bit concerned when the power lines came down.
  11. Should've let a coupe of barrells go across their bows, that'd be shot of them:biggrin:
  12. Dont forget your cameras.... in good Arbtalk tradition we expect pics of people doing something silly, or getting drunk... or dancing with a topper or all of the above:thumbup:
  13. Whether we agree or disagree with their sentiments, our military have fought throughout the centuries to defend our right to freedom of speech . Yes it is insulting to any level-headed person, and thankfully they appear to be a small minority. Personally I cannot think of one good reason why any one person living in our country cannot show a modicum of respect for the fallen.
  14. Yes, but.... how long does it take to find the relevant book, find the relevant page, and hpefully find the relevant answer? Or you can just click on Arbtalk, ask a simple question, and lo the answer appears before yur eyes without even having to leave your seat. thats partly why the site ranks highly in Google, cos its a fount of knowledge on all things tree-related.
  15. Unfortunately not everyone is blessed with a knowledge of all tree related issues, and thats where the forum comes into its own. We all muck in to help each other, some may know more on trees, but need help with a saw problem, another may be experienced in forestry cutting, but never have planted. Feeling able to ask anothers advice or opinion is a good thing, and dont forget we occasionally get the queries from people who are not in the profession, seeking advice n their trees.
  16. Perhaps they wanted to see the world famous workshop?
  17. why not just get a shackle for winching purposes, they arent that dear? Or if the job requires the winch and shackle, surely it wuld be foolish not to use the shackle from the Lolered kit, then retire it for winching purposes only and replace it. The forces put on a shackle when winching will probably be greater than those in a rigging situation.
  18. just ordered the latest JCB tough phone, not to replace the BB, but to have as "onsite" emergency phone. With all the heavy rain and a tough working environment, I dont want to risk any damage to the BB, yet need the phone on my person all the time. How do I forward calls from one handset to another, and is it expensive?
  19. Proper sharpen every night, then titivate during the day as the edge goes off
  20. I use a roller guide for sharpening, though I'll "touch-up" during the day free hand. I dont like the fixed guides as you cant roll the file through. A friend of mine can sharpen better free hand, so I think its practise and becomes a knack.
  21. Give Nick Francis my regards when you see him:thumbup1:
  22. Hi Frosty, where abouts in Suffolk are you based?
  23. We had a late "breakfast" at 11am, planned it that way so we didnt forget in the heat of a felling frenzy. Had my poppy tucked in the vent on the Vertex, though it got a bit wet and bedraggled in the crappy weather.
  24. Look, listen, think, all day. If you dont know....ask! Nothing to do.... rake clear, fuel saws. have eyes in the back of your head, expect the unexpected, be switched on all day, keep focussed, you are at work, not at the pub/match/playgroup, act like it. No-one expects you to "know-it-al" to start with, but they expect you to work.
  25. Simon, was this done in one hit, or were the roots pruned last year in preparation for the move this year?
