  1. Get him a nice little cosmetics bag, fill it with hand cream, moisturiser, his favourite deodorant, after-shave, condoms, etc, oh and a nice matching man-bag for his paperwork. He'll love you forever..... honest:biggrin: Apparently its what the modern style is about.
  2. I think a lot of the hand care issues are due to 2 things, the modern "low fat" diet, less natural oils in the system, and modern soaps removing the naturally occurring oils the body produces. However, I never moisturise, or apply hand crreams, no cracks splits or sore hands here. Just man up.
  3. but he always comes and stashes stuff under the tree, so you're lying.
  4. I've been really really good al year, please can I have one of these HoneyBee RC Helicopters From Heliguy.com
  5. Lovely day here today, rigging out a euc, powerlines were dropped which made life a whole lot easier. We were able to rig down decent man-size pieces then. All the tools frozen on the trailer when I got home! Was worrying about the job all night, more from the point of view of whether we could get on site, whether EDF would allow the shut-down due to the cold, but all ended up ok:thumbup1:
  6. Sums the job up nicely that:thumbup1:
  7. I have the jCB Tradesman phone on back order, in fact email came through this morning to say its been despatched. Going to be using it as a second phone on site.
  8. Great, now we just dont need any snow to throw a spanner in the works:001_smile:
  9. Applications for felling licences should be made to the Forestry Commission and sent to the conservator responsible for the trees in his district. The applicant should be the person who owns the land on which the trees are growing and who has the right to fell them.
  10. Welcome to our happy throng Ron
  11. [quote=Tom2020;387597 May work out for some big company's not for one man and his dog Or im i missing something Dogs dont wear boots?
  12. I may be wrong, but I believe if you are end-user then no, but if you're buying for staff then yes.
  13. Colder than we get in this country. Bear in mind other factors though, treacherous ice, bitterly cold winds (hypothermic conditions?) but most of the time good clothing will prevent most issues. Take flasks of hot drinks, hot soup etc so your body hasnt got to waste energy heating cold food.
  14. Spares are readily available through Stihl:thumbup1:
  15. When I couldnt get on last year, I went around my elderly clients ensuring their paths were swept, that they had essentials and so on. This doesnt earn you money short term, but they talk to others and tell every one what a nice young man you were for helping, and you end up reaping what you sow.....eventually.
  16. I know it sounds obvious, but I recall someone asking this some time ago.
  17. Yeah I'd put a 13ish bar on the 260, then have a 15 and 18 for the 357, dont forget the bar for the Stihl wont fit the husky though.
  18. Personally I would stick a 13" on the 346, and have a 15 and 18 for the 357, should all be on the 325 anyway, 3/8 is normally for the larger saws than the mid-range.
  19. I've seen this "less skilled" work around here, taking absolutely no care about the job, just pricing to do it quickly and on the cheap, leaving a mess everywhere. If you are going out at 250 for 2 men and kit, how on earth are you breaking even? Why cant you charge full tree rates, you still have a gang going out, a truck to run, trimmers to buy and maintain, and fuel to supply, as well as disposal, and staff expenses, just the same costs as tree work.
  20. -7C here last night, hope it doesnt drop much more than that!! Interestingly the Met office poo-poohed the old wives tales the other day, saying they use scientific ways to predict the weather, yet I saw in the Telegraph that they forecast a mild winter for us, whereas all the natural indicators point to a harsh winter.
  21. From my point of view, buying the chipper between us made sense. Of all the people I've worked with, Steve is probably the only person I would consider, and I have other people who for one reason or another I know it just wouldnt work out. We dont make a big fuss out of it, if we happen to clash on a date we sort it out to both our satisfaction. We have both moved on in our own directions since the machine was bought (we were working together quite a bit), and yet it still hasnt caused any grief for either of us. Communication is the key. All I will say now is that if you arent entirely certain for any reason, dont do it.
  22. Yeah right!!
  23. Sorry to hear this again. If you can put any more details such as serial nos id marks etc it makes it easier to id if it "pops up" in a pub somewhere, or if they try to shift the gear online. Hope you get on your feet again soon. Hope the chipper has a Tracker and leads the police to the haul.
  24. No worries, thats the beginning of next month!! And if you watch the forecast you're more than welcome to be working out in that snotty stuff!Chipping is always a last resort to me, most jobs I'll burn stuff wherever possible, its greener and quicker:thumbup:
  25. We've known each other a long time now:001_smile:
