Cheers for the concern guys.

This has been on the cards for a while, the old fat jab sales are up I bet.

To be honest I think it’s a valid concern, tends to be directed more at the rig  based 2-2/3-3 guys on long term gigs on the same platform for years.
Us freelance scum on DSV’s etc have it slightly different.
Thankfully the annual dive medical is pretty strict so keeps lads in my industry on their toes. Mind you I’m definitely heavier since being in dive control rather than the water, but I still hit the gym or get the pads on often.
There should be a lot more of that in society in general, state of some police and NHS chubbers I see for example. Office workers in the public sector a proper source of concern.

What pads?

I don't know about office workers in the public sector, but NHS workers are the worst from what I see. A large proportion aren't just chubbers, but serious bloaters. Not so much amoungst the doctors, but certainly when you look at the nurses, cleaners, porters etc. Not a good example to the punters. Mind, it's just a slightly amplified reflection of society in general. Children's swimming lessons are truly shocking.

Fat jabs aren't the answer. They're just a short term fix to make politicians look like they're doing something, with the added incentive of making the drug companies lots of money. Gyms aren't much better either.

Best cardio in the world 42, set of pads and mits and work with someone or do some bag time.
Reading that article the driving force is the coastguard which obviously provides last resort evacuation option for many platforms but it does have a significant impact upon what they can do with the general public at large. Maybe go the same route as the NHS and start and have XL wheelchair type options.

My lad has a pad session every other night after work . Christ knows where he gets the energy after a days graft cutting !

Agreed, boxing training is hard work. I had done some circuit training and thought I was fit. I did some shotokan in the past, but hadn't done hitting things for a while. Was encouranged by a mate to come along to a gym in Newcastle ran by an ex commando PTI who used to train boxing teams. That was a killer - fair play to anyone who does that sort of training day in day out. He would run 5 sessions a day - ran the same speed uphill as he did downhill, absolute menace but I learned alot.

Lifting heavy things is good for you, too. My mental health dropped off when I stopped throwing trees into the back of a van, it took me a while to realise what I was missing.

It may be  something to do with the working environment and long hours. Twelve hour shifts stuck inside and whenever they get to sit down it's with tea and biscuits rather than proper meals.

And the only time you see coppers is parked illegally outside a KFC or Dominos, on a 10 minute mid shift food stop.

Shift work itself, especially night shifts, are bad for health. Physical and mental.

My son has been hitting Thai pads since he was 4 years old, he is 18 now.  Trains at least 4-5 times a week.  He does Brazilian JJ and Muay Thai.  The emphasis in in whatever competition he has coming up.  At the moment he is training for a Muay Thai fight next weekend.  So the emphasis has been on the hitting and not the choking.

I am a large supporter of hitting pads.  Seems to just clear my head even though I am often hanging out my arse but it feels great afterwards.
