Making the news today....

On the A3 on the way back from Portsmouth listening to Steve Wright in the afternoon.

Initial report said 6 or 7 people believed killed.

Offshore doing  platform based diving on the “ Heather Alpha “ in the UK North Sea. All diving ops were suspended, we headed up to the rec room which was showing the events live on tv and initially thought it was a disaster movie rather than the news. Definitely a “ where were you on that day” event.

Working in Dover Marina. Heard the news, packed up the gear and went to the "Thirst And Last".

Footage on TV as it  all unfolded.

I've never seen a pub like that deathly quiet and sombre.

A day I could never forget.

I was reducing a Horse Chestnut with "Deaf Lad" in Norwood junction. Big Phil tells us a plane had hit the WTC,then a while later another one.

 

We went to the pub to watch the Telly,when they were showing footage of the planes impacting the building, Sam who was stone deaf belows out "Not Good"

I was driving a tractor and potato harvester at Brandon in Suffolk. Initially thought it was a Chris moyles wind up on the radio then it became obvious it wasn’t! I didn’t see the pictures till the next day.

I remember standing open mouthed in front of the telly, hardly able to believe what I was witnessing. 

A surreal experience indeed.

Having a game of pool. I remember being mildly annoyed at the time that they'd turned the jukebox off to turn up the news.

I was spraying the grass around young trees at North Manchester Golf Club. Listened to it all unfolding on the way home.

I spent the entire day and into the early evening, in a darkroom hand printing the B & W photos I had taken at my friends wedding, I missed the entire event.
I remember catching a bus to Wigan that evening to meet up for a few beers.

I sat thumbing through the portfolio whilst listening to two old Lancashire women behind me talking about crashing planes into the Pentagon and the World Trade Centre, I thought it odd at the time for two gals off to bingo to be having such a subversive dialogue, it all made sense when I walked in the pub and saw the TV screens.
