Having watched people on benefits justify £40 per week on fags and beer, when they cannot pay the rent that keeps the roof over their children's heads, I'm not convinced all those attending food banks actually need them.

I fear its a case of "if you build it, they will come".

How dare you suggest that the "poor" should squander the booze/drugs/fags money on groceries!!!'

Did you watch that on TV or do you know people in reallife who do it? The reason I ask, is that the majority of people with booze/drug addictions I have encountered, don't really eat.

Booze and fags are highly taxed goods, they are just handing the money straight back:-)

I did not say addicted, I drink plenty and still eat plenty :blushing:

But at least I buy my own

Surely, spending all your money on booze/drugs, while not leaving enough for food is a symptom of addiction, no?

Or buying booze and getting your food free from the food bank :sneaky2:

I'm pretty sure there are no "booze banks" :sneaky2:

After much deliberation I figger Salvation Army type soup kitchens would achieve more, said soup to extend to stews and cassaroles and curries.

Perhaps fresh vegetables could be supplied by all these Govt/Council sponsored inner city gardens?

I simply know that I spend significently less in the pub, than many of those on lesser incomes(or indeed benefits), however I do NOT gamble or smoke.

Unlike many smitten by this unholy trinity of expensive addictions.
