Tattoos in the workplace

Personally I dont like tattoos so I would discriminate against someone who had them on display against someone who didnt if I was for example looking to employ someone. It does look aggressive to a lot of people and I wouldnt want it putting potential or on going customers off.

Tattooist no doubt but well thats the way it is. BTW its not the same as being racist or sexist before someone starts :laugh1:

What alarm bells? I'd be disappointed if I didn't get asked to work for someone based on image and not ability/personality in this industry just because my hands were tattooed.

I guess it all just comes down to the people and how they get on. Although I do understand if someone came along with offensive tattoos on display it's a no go.

I'm just old school mate.

Anyone back in my day with ink on their hands had done time.

Swallows, ACAB, LOVE-HATE etc.

While the modern stuff looks fantastic sometimes my judgemental old brain maybe hasn't moved on.

Maybe I'm just bitter after getting my Peter Beardsley back piece just before we sold him.

I nearly said 'Unless they were Maori' in my first post Ian!

Which makes me a racist.

Nah, it's pretty much taken for granted here that whether you're Maori, Pakeha, islander, you're probably going to have ink. Even the woman. I understand where you're coming from though. I remember the Swallows etc and around my parts, LCFC across the knuckles.

In fact it's almost a prerequisite 😀

Good friend who subs for me has had all the old **** he had blacked out and hands covered , looks effective, customers are more interested than shocked. Had one tell me I looked like beckham, I told him he was lucky I didn't charge him double😀

It's much more socially acceptable now though facial tattoos are still fairly taboo and most people who have a lot of em (facial ones) are either a bit mental or end up mental!

Another guy who worked for me had dreads n big ring thru his septum and that used to get a lot more odd looks.

Both good honest skilled workers

i have got my whole arm both hands and inside of the other arm covered and have not had any problems, i did worry about how customers might view me but most dont care a few ask about them and the others have em anyway. I think the ones on your face are a bit extreme and might make people judge you before you even speak.

They'll be a few more LCFC's floating round recently I'm sure!

Someone should do a link to the scene in 'Once Were Warriors' when Jakes eldest boy comes back with his facial tats!

'Good look bro!'.

It's not the ink, it's people's perception of you, right or wrong.

If you want to get your face fully tattooed by all means do it.

When you can't get a job afterwards don't whinge though, most people are judgemental and you made the choice.

I've got ink, and so have a vast proportion of the blokes who have ever worked for me, but there's a line IMO.
