A lot people don't like the driving position, but find it fine. I drive from lillihammer to the south of France in a td5 with only a break for ferry and fuel. I was knackered but comfortable. Mine was in for a new clutch😎 so I borrowed a mates transit and it hurt my knees!

 

I just wish the radio in the land rover worked...

Let's quosh this rumour that the production line is being moved abroad and production will continue somewhere overseas. JLR have made it very clear that this is not happening, despite some early rumours.

 

The dismantlers were in effect following H166HUE down the line, the BIW (Body In White) line is already gone, the rest won't last long. It is likely that the part of the building which held the Defender line will be demolished soon to make room for a state-of-the-art building.

 

Love them or hate them, today marked the end of an era.

Ha ha you think a Defender rusts?! Get yourself a Fourtrak then..:lol: you will wake up to a pile of iron oxide on your drive...

 

My mate had a fourtrack for a few months, rusty, broke down, you couldn't turn the trailer to a sensible angle as it caught on the bumper and the ride was so crashing he used to say my defender felt like a Bentley in comparison!:lol:

Fond memories of the trusty Defender which took us across all manner of obstacles from Walvis Bay in Namibia to Livingstone in Zambia. The graded roads were just like driving over miles of cattle grids

 

This was in the middle of the night in the middle of the Namid Desert in 1998

So many people knock landrovers and yet over 60% of all the ones ever built are still on the road which can't be said for any other make of 4x4, .

 

I take it this means only 40% got home?

 

 

Seriously though, the 60% claim is from LR themselves.

We've had three and all three have been broken for spares....Chassis rotting and bulkheads rotting were what done for them. Sure a galvanised chassis and bulkhead can be had for about £5k, then there's stripping down the old one to fit the new one, add another thousand to the bill to replace what gets broken when doing this conversion and very quickly you realise an Isuzu Rodeo is great value

 

Model T fords were once great, then came Austin A7's then Mini's then Escorts. Motoring history's littered with great cars that have had their day, Defenders are just the next ones
