Major ouch. What model, any idea why? Looks to have seen some grease recently at least, but was it enough?

Gehl 240. Built like a brick out house or so I thought. Often put grease in and it hangs around there anyway. No idea what made it go. Looking closely I can see it had part failed some time ago as some of the break was dirty and rusty then the rest failed.

Sending the whole machine off to local workshop in the hope the can sort it. Didn't fancy separating it with my limited tools and skills

Yes it looks like it had been fractured before. I guess that is weldable steel hopefully they have access to a line borer, it's doable but probably expensive. Let me know how they manage.

Failure and success!

Grinder went south, just firing on one cylinder and backfiring like a clowns car.

Under FaceTime supervision from my brother in England we (he) surmised a head gasket issue.
Got it apart and voila! A perished gasket letting oil escape.
Should be a cheap fix. Saved myself a monkey at least.
Quite pleased with myself.
little victories etc….

All fixed and back at work. They re-made quite a bit as it past a simple welding job. Also squeezed in some reinforcements underneath as space is tight when you turn. Not cheap but nothing ever is and doubt it was an easy job getting it all apart
