Is the wood stove fad over?

From what most of you have said , it seems as though the fad is not over which is good news. Seems to be great variation in how much people use/light them, but that is nothing new I guess, but I still think the novelty of lifestyle items does where off with some people, especially if there is some effort attached to the item.

There are 4 stove shops within a 5 mile radius of me,some old shops,some new.

All cutting each others throats to sell and install.

Might be a slight dip due to low oil prices, but the modern ones are so efficient they'll always be popular. (I heat my house with wood, but in fairness I do get it free)

I sell to a local stove shop, I think a lot more brickette type things are being sold this year than ever., is it because they are easier to store/use/? They don't seem cheap..

Also it is the pellet boilers that they seem to be selling..

I can't understand the difficulty in lighting them. I have a Town and Country Little Thurlow (traditional masonry chimney) and a Stovax Stockton 7 (SS Double skin chimney) both easy to light. The little Thurlow easiest I think. Just takes a bit of thinking about really its not difficult.

 

Of the two the Little Thurlow is best overall. I am not sure if that is down to the stove or chimney though.

6 Verdo briquettes from home bargains for two pounds seventy-something, weighs about 10 kg for the pack of six. The missus brings home a clatter in the back of the car anytime she's near it and we use a few of them along with our own stuff.

 

Much better than buying a lot of old soggy shite masquerading as firewood, easy to handle, easy to store, consistent quality, not hard to see the attraction if you had to buy all that you burn.
