how many of you guys have used a stihl ms880 up in the tree?

i have myself never used or seen anyone use one up the tree and was wondering how hard it is to maneuver it up there due to the weight of the saw , and thinking about how hard it is to ascend up there tree with in dangling below you on your harness.

just out of interest really how you guys felt the first time you used one up a height.

Yes, and a 3120, not simultaneously though.

If you have a 4' plus bar they are awkward to get into the cut, once the cuts started its easy enough. Starting a series of cuts with a smaller saw and then swapping to the big one can make it easier.

havent been the climber but was the groundie and the climber set up a quick rigging line and we hauled the saw up to him and like other people have said once its in the cut no probs. oh also our climber had a small plastic wedge to make sure the chog did not bite on to the saw.

If your having to chog down a huge stem, go down the stem and cut slots with a smaller saw for every chog your going cut, then go back to the top and get the 88 sent up.

Have used an 880 twice up a tree - hard work! - as above use a small saw to start the cut so you can then rest the bar of the 880 in position...

Very hard to start the cut with an 880 up a tree.
