tax discs and new law

Quite right but it was ever thus, if you bought a car without tax there was always a temptation to leave it till the end of the month.

My interpretation is that if you sell on 30th September you will maximise your return, the new owner will still have to pay all September's tax when he renews.

The alternative possibility is to SORN the vehicle prior to sale.

The difficulty of selling a car mid month and dating the sale at the end of the month to give the new owner a full month would be if they committed any driving offences the tickets and or police would be coming after you as still being the vehicle owner and obviously the driver who committed the offences. Best to sell it at the end of the month or keep the car till the start of the month and sell it then.

All this about selling at the end of the month how many of us don't sell the vehicle with the tax ? I always sell with what ever tax is left so really yes there getting more money but were getting some back my biggest question is how would you tax a new vehicle when you pick it up if the post office isn't open as you couldn't do it online as it would be for the current owner

Raced my lorry last week, I got a disc printed at bottom of letter as they have run out of discs, but I have to use this disc for 1 month until the new system starts, surprised they can't print them at the post office, it doesn't look legitimate in the slightest

this is it i do not think the DVLA have though out it properly and have just rushed this new system in. good point how can you tax it in your name if its still in the old owners name unless thats now done online. if not then a lot of cars etc may not get sold as who wants a car stuck off road waiting for the v5 to be changed
