I suppose in the strictest sense of the word, I am not an "arborist". I do however love my work with trees, more so these days than in the past. I like to think I've found my niche.

Why do I like Arbtalk? It's gelled a very fractured industry, and pooled together a lot of mini-businesses, from all aspects and sectors of the tree world. I think Arbtalk has done a lot of good for the development and future growth of the Arboricultural world. And that is due to its membership.

I started off as a woodturner/furniture designer maker. Got a stove to heat the workshop and needed to get firewood for it. Started using my Alaskan mill back in 91 to plank up trees as we didn't have any local sawmills. This site is brilliant for advice and ideas with lots of knowledgeable guys who I wouldn't have access to otherwise. Sometimes its a quick fix for the saw, other times it can be a new idea like adding the winch to the mill. All useful stuff I wouldn't know about without the forum.

Son of a forester who joined the merchant navy - currently working in the offshore sector in the North sea

Bought an old cottage to fix up and was offered 8.5 acres of surrounding woodland & neglected fields for next to nothing. Related internet searches brought me to Arbtalk.

NFG - the secret to deciphering Jon is to match the level of blood in his cider stream :lol::lol:

Joiner by trade, but interested in all things timber related. I like the idea of being able to cut a tree down and mill the timber and make things from it, all with my own hands. I dont think there are many trades that can actually do that.

I came accross this site by accident. But from the the first time i visited this site, i knew that it was going to provide me with much needed knowledge accross many areas.

The guys on here are brilliant in some form or another, the mixed areas of expertise and wisdom is a wonderful mixture.

Mr bulman and his elves deserve a big thumbs up, and pat on the back for creating and controlling this wonderful forum.:congrats::congrats::congrats::party:

Started at 16 in ecology and conservation at Myerscough as I was to young for the Arb course (by 20 days :mad1:) Did that started Arb just before I turned 18 did ND arb then ISA cert. Joined the forum years back, but never posted and forgot password etc. Rejoined a bit back to find new techniques and equipment. I'm about to turn 31 (in 12 days) and feel a bit old school as the most I've progressed is to a klemheist rather than a prusik

Don't really climb trees anymore but arbtalk has been fantastic to put out new ideas and promote my business....

It's a great place for getting advice and also for giving advice. I reckon there's more timber out there getting milled because of it
