i know what you mean by that fruity smell but it can smell rancid too.

Fruity/rancid all the same with my messed.up sense of smell or what I have left of it. Will forward that link into my mate, the stuff was incredibly dry, moisture meter averaged out at around 17%

My good friend Martin "Burrell" droped off some prime milled Elm some two years ago so I could make a small rustic table for our garden. It has taken me forever to have time to do it but thanks to some saws not turning up for service........the job got done:thumbup:

Been milling this ugly lump of burry elm today, didn't get any photos of where it was when I turned up but it was attached to the root plate sat on top of a stone wall (at least what was left of it) Took a bit to get the root plate cut away and pull it to flatter ground.

 

 

Plenty of burrs on it, some of which I took off so it would fit the mill.

First slab off and its looking good

 

 

Got 12 x 2" slabs out of it with good thick top and bottom slabs left over for wood turning.
