Tough phone recommendations?

Just buy a smartphone and invest in a decent tough case such as an Otterbox or Griffin. Had my iPhone a year now and it's been dropped out of my pocket, skittled across the floor and bounced all over the show but the case has done its job. Still works like new.

Fair enough. So in theory, if all you need is something just to call people on (which you can actually do on an iPad I think) why don't you just get the cheapest piece of rubbish going and replace it when it breaks down or gets trashed? From what I've seen the tough phones are pretty expensive for what they are.

This is exactly what I do, not interested in a phone which does anything other then make calls, my 10 quid Samsung does just that and I reckon if you took that and an iPhone to the top of a tree and dropped them I know which I'd place my bets on still working, cheap phones tend to be pretty bulletproof, no fancy nonsense to get broken:thumbup1:

Another big + for samsung. I had a GT2710 and it went through the washing machine 3 times and still worked eventually the key pad got too dodgy and I couldn't see the screen for scratches so I now have a c3350 its an updated 2710.Works well and seems strong enough so far. Nick

Same here had two 2710's which while strong didn't like staying connected with the van hands free kit an the second one wouldn't connect to my email account.

Have the upgraded to a Samsung GT-C3550 and it going good. Got a pack of the screen guard membranes for it as my screens always get blurry with grit/sand in my pockets. It survives the calmly conditions of my shirt top pockets on sweaty climbing days - extreme high humidity conditions. It's been dropped, soaked, etc and is still running. Not big money of Amazon and the battery life........................up to 5-6 days in normal use. I'd like to see your iphone types doing that! Oh and it has a great little torch on top corner, very handy. Nearly forgot, sound quality good and reception good.

I've got a Motorola RAZR HD in the touch big otter box, dropped it/thrown it around heaps of times and its sweet as. Had logs getting flipped round in the chipper and hit my phone hard as hell and it not only protects the phone but it absorbs a fair bit of impact haha. Whichever phone you get, get an otterbox, definitely worth the money
