right so the guy was using a chain saw in a public park cutting up a tree that did not belong to him!

fallen timber or standing tree either way it is still theft & putting the public at risk!

the guy died stealing i do not like thieves of any kind!

as said above if he had been a teenage hodie, immigrant or traveller & he had been steling a chainsaw everybodys reaction would have been different!

stealing is stealing! end of!

i work hard for my money & pay good money for cord wood & would not dream of pulling up in a park & start cutting down or cutting up trees that i found there!

when i`m out walking my dog i see people stealing wood all the time i explain to them that they are stealing & every one of them says its only a bit of wood as if that makes it ok?

they are taking saws & wheelbarrows into the local woods & cutting down trees & fences & then taking them home to burn!

in my book that is criminal damage & theft which last time i checked was still illegal in great britian!

I get paid to go clear wind blown trees from parks, so some may argue he was saving the tax payer some cash.

He may even have been given "unofficial" permission to take the wood.

The guy is dead and I find your comments pretty distasteful, we don't know the facts, you are making a great many assumptions.

For all we know he may have been collecting the wood for some poor old folk from the village to help them keep warm.

I suspect that it's ended up costing the tax payer an awful lot more than you would have charged though with the way it's panned out.... :001_huh:

Yes but I was referring to his motives, I'm certainly not going to call any one a thief, without know a great deal about the situation.

Some of the attitudes I read on here these days are pretty appalling

Got to agree with Skyhuck, dunno how anyone can be disrespectful to a guy in such a remorseful situation without knowing the facts.

if your offended by my comments thats fine by me! just saying it how it is!

theres nothing wrong with telling the truth! some people do not like to hear the truth!

my main concern with the gentleman in questions actions was what if the tree had landed on somebody`s child who was just playing in the wood at the side of the park????????

yes somebody any body with a chainsaw in a public place cutting down / up trees / tree waste with no quals no insurance no risk assement no permission is breaking the law & putting life at risk

NO WAY would any local council say to some old boy yeah you just go take as much wood as you like from the local park!!!

no sorry he was stealing & putting life at risk (which he did prove unfortunatly for him) just lucky there was not somebodys small child stood under the tree when it fell!!!!

hope you dont find that distastefull!:thumbup1:
