  4. Just two little tasters. Words cannot put into reason the trip as a whole
  5. Cheers guys. I do try to get on, but with the job and the kids getting older into more activities and clubs, I end up playing taxi. By the time I get in at night I'm goosed haha. One thing the new job had helped with though is the collation of pictures. I don't want to release half a job, but I'm a perfectionist I'm afraid. I'll get there, and when I do, I'll need testers I'll try to get on more often too
  6. Website is there in the background, but it's taking a lot longer than I anticipated. I will release it eventually though
  7. Hi Julian, I recently undertook an exam ran by the BSBI (Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland in case some of you didn't know) and gained a level 3 qualification allowing me to do partial Phase 1 habitat Surveys. I'm sure there may be other routes too, but this one is worth looking at (and possibly right up your street!) BSBI Bats however, is a whole different board game. Our Ecologists have to do years of training events, CPD's, surveys under supervision and hours and hours of on site time before they can even begin to think about becoming a bat surveyor. Worth looking into though if you have the time and energy
  8. Not bud scar. Leaf scar. Its the place on the twig where last year's leaf was before it fell off. The scar is what is left when it does fall off. The bundle scars are the little dimple type things on the leaf scar. Close up of that would be a real help Sent from my GT-N7105 using Arbtalk mobile app
  9. I don't thin kit is Frisia due to the lack of thorns. Think more along the lines of Fraxinus pennyslyvanica, or Phellodendran sp., or Juglans cinerea, or Rhus sp, or... I'm working on it
  10. Hah, I can picture it now:thumbup: Sent from my GT-N7105 using Arbtalk mobile app
  11. I like the way you're tied into the piece you're cutting too! Here's my caveat! JOKE! for all those lacking a sense of humour:lol:
  12. Syngenta withdraws application to use banned pesticide linked to bee harm | Environment | theguardian.com Different chemical I think, but makes you think... Long live the bees
  13. Trouble is, i'm sure a normal layman out there would read this and go.... right where's me axe:001_rolleyes:
  14. http://www.marketoracle.co.uk/Article45860.html Loving the incorrect idents, anyone would think the writer of this little piece didn't like trees! Now... who's had there official rope saw training:lol:
  15. I've always been tempted by work abroad (and that side of the world) when I was a climber, I'll be honest and say it wasn't the size of the trees that put me off, but the creepy and bitey crawlies that lived within them:lol: Plus, the family would take a bit of persuading. If I could "consult" over there that would be a whole different story and a massive learning curve, you never know, one day. I'll keep doing the researching but cheers for the info:thumbup:
  16. Do you ever have any comings and goings with arb consultants out there Lee? Any ideas on what pay scales are like for that side of arb? Cheers
  17. Imminent - Fast approaching, about to happen, almost a certainty But is it definite?? 1/1?? nah, not quantifiable imo Probable - Likely to happen, odds-on, plausible It either happens, or it doesn't... statistics can be bent to any situation depending on the viewpoint... 50/50 (0.5) Possible - able to be done, that may happen, feasible, capable of occurring Again, it either happens, or it doesn't... 50/50 (0.5) Improbable - Not likely to happen, unexpected, (didn't know this but this word comes from the Latin "hard to prove" - "in probabilis") This ones' a funny one. Let me give you an example... According to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, it is improbable that when dissolving a teaspoon of sugar into your cup of tea, that by stirring, and stirring, and stirring that the sugar will reform back into crystal granules. Not impossible, but improbable. 0.999999999 recurring. Maths, mmmmmm
  18. Just a thought.... We have British Standards concerned with Trees and Developments, Nurseries and Planting and Tree Works amongst others. Why not have one for house buying!? (even if it's just ickle) The amount of times I've come across NIMBY's who've bought a house with a tree next door adjacent or on the boundary and want it down/pruned a few years later. Surely a bit of advice from an estate agent (should they be considering this anyway?) would reduce the number of cases like this one presented here? In regards to this tree, why are there so many members who feel the need to get one-upmanship on matters of the law?? (and that is aimed at both sides of this argument). As Jules states, so many cases like this go unresolved (in the law) due to interpretation of words and phrases, misunderstandings of terminology or sheer bloody-mindedness from arguing factions. BUT, as Rupe states, this tree is easily resolvable and has given by far the best (from a common sense perspective) advice. We can argue till we're blue in the face about the benefits of trees and if we could change your mind to leave it and live with it, great. If not, go with professional advice and remain amicable at all times, even show willingness on your behalf to mitigate the pruning of the tree by buying a small potted tree and offering to plant elsewhere perhaps. And in future, maybe you have friends or relatives thinking of, or in the process of, buying a new house that you could give sound advice too in regards to houses and boundary trees.
  19. Is it a laburnum without the darker colouring of any heartwood?

  21. Hah, quite surprised no-one said Hornbeam:001_rolleyes:
