Yeah, but there is alternatives, the legislation isnt "controling the design of trucks" as Dan said. Personal choices is controlling what vehicle we choose to use. Most arbs choose to run as simply and cheaply as possible.
 
You not wanting to keep your truck at your yard is your choice? plenty of hauliers manage?
 
Trees are heavy, so we should be abiding by the heavy transport rules, thats the ugly truth. 
 
IF everyone could play by the rules, it'd be far better for the industry as a whole IMO. 

Yeah, fair point there are plenty of other trucks. It sounds a bit like the 750kg chipper which would in general be a better machine if not built down to a weight but it's what everyone buys because it is easier on licencing, so in the end it's nearly all you can buy unless you go up a big step.

Isn't it all about based on were work is, householder would not want a big truck parked in drive and not on the side of road because we all like get as near to a job as we can, and no point only half filling a big truck day in day out.

A lot of people ask me why I run a landy 130 that's because a lot of my work is off road and no other truck will do what that can.

Pretty sure we have some extra restrictions for something or other. The better half deals with all that but think we looked into it before and it was a month earlier than most. Could be because we are in a Nation Park?

But i doubt anyone would tell the difference between a 3,5 and a 7,2ton iveco daily (for example) tbh. - so it is possible to have the same sized truck, but run legally.

To be honest Josh, if I lived at my yard a bigger truck would make sense, but with the amount of dids in Kent now I want it parked within shotgun range.

3.5 tonners are a gift from God.

Get one without any toolboxes and a decent chip box and you’re in business.

 

We may be moving up later in the year to a bigger lorry but  thé 3.5 tonner has served us well.
