I havent received a single present this xmas, yet its been my best xmas yet. Just seeing the grandkids enjoy theirs has been my highlight. [emoji106]

A flip saw is handy for small joinery  .. but a sliding mitre is needed for construction timbers, I'd say that as a general tool a 305mm sliding mitre combined with the best table saw you can afford would be a good combination, I have some Metabo mid priced stuff that I'm not disappointed with from a non professional point of view. 

Thanks, the idea of a flip saw appealed owing to space but you are probably right.

Seen a SIP 305mm sliding mitre saw for sale locally secondhand; looks like it’s a bit vintage but solid so am hoping to go and have a look at that.

The long term plan is to build myself a workshop so I’m hoping the mitre saw will come in useful for the projects along the way, then can be put in the workshop with a separate table saw or bandsaw.

Yes,  I use a 305 sliding mitre saw and also a 260 flip saw which rarely gets flipped and tbo I've put up with it for too long and I'm looking at a dedicated larger table saw that could make a 4" cut asap, cheers.

The kids were fairly pleased with their climbing frame beds.

 

I definitely shouldn't have assumed the floor would be flat or the ceiling level in this old cottage, but a bit of jiggery-pokery got it in. 

 

A lot of the timber is reclaimed from big pallets, all the steel bars are scrap from work.

That's great, but it'll take a lot more jiggery-pokery to get them to go to sleep now!

They were on it from 0800 to 1600 yesterday, short break for dinner, passed out by 1830. Their energy reserves can now be exhausted even when it's raining outside. Straight back on it at dawn this morning, didn't hear a peep out if them until we got up ourselves. 

 

Worthwhile time investment, for sure.
