Ive just gave VOSA a call and asked them if I would need a O licance to tow a trailer on the back of my mog for use in arb and they said I would need one. Also she said you would need one for the Mog its self! Unless it has equipment attached to it eg a chipper.

I asked about using red and she said I need to talk to HM Customs gave them a call but still no joy they are going to look in to it for me.

Did you tell them it's registered as a tractor/Ag machine? Assuming it is?

You can’t use red plain and simple. HMCE first take a very dim view of that then they take your vehicle

My understanding is as follows;

Firstly if your Unimog id registered as an Agricultural Vehicle then you can use red diesel BUT it has to be used for agriculture, forestry or fishing. Arb work is not necessarily covered. Agricultural Vehicles can not be used more than 20 miles from home (unless transported on a low loader). To use a Unimog like this there is no requirement for an O licence etc. This law is not really enforced particularly!

Possibly a Unimog could be registered as mobile plant, this would need a chipper attached etc but the mog could not transport goods (eg chip) on the road.

If the Unimog is registered as a goods vehicle then one would need an O licence, the right class of licence to drive it, a tacho and regular checks. The mog would then need to run on white diesel.

The law is a nightmare, the speed limits are all different etc etc. Sometimes the tranny and chipper is the best to be stopped in!

if you work within 25miles of your base & doing arb you dont need to put a disc in ,but still need it fitted if you stray out side the 25m radius :001_smile:but you need to stay under 7500kg ,as i was told by my inspection contractor,
