Unimog legalities?!

Chaps, i realise that some of this has been on here before but I'm trying to get a definitive answer.

I'm a Unimog owner and earlier I spent over two hours on the phone to VOSA, DVLA and DoT trying to find out:

1. What type of road tax is required.

2. What is the law regarding motorway use.

My Mog is a 1993 U1200 is registered as agricultural, has a chip box and linkage mounted chipper.

The above offices bounced me around and I got nowhere.

If anyone knows then I would be grateful, as I'm sure others would be too, but please let's not fill this thread with 'My mate down the pub who's uncles brother was a traffic cop in 1983 says it's ok, maybe'

Much appreciated.

It tricky.

When I got my first mog, 12 or so years ago, I rang the traffic police and asked about the Mway. A very nice Sargent Forest rang me back, he looked it up and told me the rules say that a vehicle can go on the Mway if it fits the following criteria

Able to do 25MPH under its own power on the flat.

Road worthy, IE lights, mudguards etc.

More than 50cc.

The confusion comes in when we talk about tractors, ordinary tractors (without air brakes and suspension) can legally only do 20MPH, so do not fulfill the criteria, but high speed tractors do.

I was pulled on the M6, I was done for being over weight (in my old U1000) they said nothing about me being on the Mway. I have taken a mog on the Mway several time a week for the last 12 years and have never been told not to.
