Comms are almost compulsory between a climber and traffic management guys on the roads like stop go boards, when one misunderstood hand signal or shout could be catastrophic.

Been a while since I did any sign language, I might have missed this part, but what do you do if you want to get someone attention urgently with signs? Or do you fall back to voice communications and shout? Cannot for example using a chainsaw up a tree and watching someone on the ground just in case they want tell you something with sign language. Eyes on the job but your ears can still listen.

Stihl comms all the way especially when working with machinery. Huge improvement in Safety but the one thing I didn’t think to consider is how much they’d Improve efficiency, which they have 10 fold.

We have been running the Stihl comms for nearly a year now. 
 

So far, in addition to the increase in safety, we have noticed a massive decrease in stress, due to the lack of shouting and misunderstanding. Increase in productivity and we have also been able to bring climbers on quicker, as we can quietly and calmly talk them through tasks outside there comfort zone, or simply give them helpful feedback.

 

It is easy to become a gobshite and try and micro manage everything when running a site, however if I feel like I am, I simply turn the mic off and only reply to questions .

We are winching big long gulleys that you can't even see the chokerman at any point as lots of dips.
