Perhaps bearing in mind min will not be doing much more than hobby cutting. 

And in my defence I went in to buy a 262. to directly replace my 1997 026.

If I was considering a 362 I'd have said so in my original post. A 400 will be my next new saw. Personally have already had a 362 and it was gutless shite. Don't tell me, I'm about to turn the page and someone is going to suggest a Husqvarna 🙄. Y'all missing the point. A friend is selling the 461 and 500 at the stated prices. This thread is exclusively about them and them only. It's not difficult to understand! Surely I don't have to put in capital shouting letters in the op that other recommendations are NOT what I'm after. I had an Echo 620 which trounced the 362 but was heavy.

The one advantage over the 500i is that the 461 is a relatively basic machine and can be maintained without plugging it in to a laptop etc so if you are maintaining it yourself...it is worth considering.

Just make sure the top end is OEM and not some old aftermarket crap.

If anyone needs a genuine stihl ms461 piston and cylinder then i have a set available. They have been 'dry fitted' to a customers saw who refused to pay his bill, so we took all the new stuff off it and put it back to how it was when he brought it in. Had to swallow all the labour so wasnt going to swallow the parts as well! 

It is 'as new' just been fitted but not run. Will need one piston ring and gudgeon pin clip as they flew across the workshop floor when we removed it.  They cost a fortune from stihl..happy to discuss to get some of my money back at least

I would feel disappointed if I was given a 461 over a 500…. Nearly the power of a 90cc saw that’s the weight of 70cc it’s hard not to want to use anything else.

I’ve got both. Both have 25” bars on them, but the 461 has been ported. Can’t really say I have a favourite. Just alternate between the two. Major difference is the 500i seems to really drink.

I will say watch the clutch on the 500i. The main reason that they come into the shop. Had quite a few destroy the crank case when the clutch nye on exploded.
