What you're saying makes sense eggs. Never really thought about it on a countrywide scale before, it seemed viable in the rural location I'm used to because nowhere in the region is big enough to have more than one post office. Think it was probably my dad that told me.

I’m not saying it’s wrong Doug, a rural post office is possibly classed as a well known landmark, after all most of them were grand buildings, not like the post office counters of today. When you get into big towns and cities you need a notional centre point, which very often isn’t the centre of the area.

Since we're on a bit of a cartography trip, here's something related. Who knows what this is? I didn't until someone told me about it fairly recently, quite interesting. I saw this one today.

Bingo! Though the number isn't the height above sea level, as I assumed it was. It's just a reference number, you can find the height from the Benchmark archive.

Turns out it's listed on that site as a benchmark!!
