Yes it does seem like it's on the way out along with taking people's word for things. Having just moved I spoke to a few companies about work around here before I got sorted, most of them wanted a CV. What's that about?  I've told you what I can do, do you (they) need it written down!😂

One of the climbers I used sent a text to say his day rate was going up to £250.

 

I ask when his next available date was which was February. 

 

Its about time that we start changing what we are worth.

Correct about sparks and gas engineers but most of the other trades I know learnt on the job, Brickie's, joiners, plasterers. Very few of them saw uni or college.

Have you seen the state of so called workmanship on building sites these days, its diabolical. There are very few actual craftsmen around these days.

Same with chainsaw operators! Plenty with tickets but when you get them into the wood you soon find out most of them are fecking useless 🤦‍♂️

about 30 35 years ago there were the 6 month wonders (brickies) half the stuff they built had to be pulled down again it was costing the firms a fortune in extra materials

Sounds about right after the miners strike and every pit got shut down. All were retrained and so called experts.

Not only brickies, research Ronan Point and missing bolts. I had much trouble with second fixings; vapour barriers and cold bridges on a couple of refurbs at work.

When I didn't go, collage was spelt differently.  But then, we didn't have spell check when I was a yoof and I ain't improved!
