Hernia

I know Mark, it illustrates the tenuous nature of self employment when you rely on your fitness, I broke my arm playing football a good while back, 8 weeks in a cast, then an arm like a noodle for a while trying to climb a tree.

I was lucky as I was cash rich at the time so rode it out. If I had a few sprogs looking hungrily at me and a big mortgage it might have been different.

Its a bit like musical chairs, you never know when the music stops.

I haven’t seen it on paper yet mate, but yes, sounds like what they call bilateral inguinal hernia.

I had the same issue, op was July 2019 and yes thats defo what double bilateral is. I was out of action for a couple of months and you'll be walking (slowly)  like a bow legged cowboy for the first few weeks at least after the procedure. I'm still hand cutting a few years down the line, but now hips are playing up...hey ho, its the nature of the game.

Be very cautious with anything otther than moderate weights for at least 6 months after the op Mark, if you rip what they fix it's a bugger to patch up.

  • 4 weeks later...

Good evening all, I have just had my left inguinal hernia fixed with open surgery. When I went in January to get it scanned they advised that it would be best to get it sorted, although it wouldn't be serious unless it burst. Some people have them for years without any issues but mine was pressing on a nerve. I had pain every time I sat down, got up or bent over to lift. If I stayed on the NHS they couldn't give me a date and mentioned that it could be as long as a year or two which suited me. The private waiting list was 5 months for me and it cost £2500.

I didn't want to have it done as I have a young business and was still working on the tools, but after snapping a ligament in my wrist back in March and having to have a few operations to try and sort that out meant I was physically useless.

I am 32 and usually very fit. Thought that I would be up in 2 days and yes I was walking from day one but couldn't get far for about a week. 2 weeks in and I am diving fine with no pain. Standing and walking is still sore. Feels like I have been punched down there with a dull pain. I am hoping that it will ease off slowly over the next few weeks.
