We disagree on that simply because of the effect a person born here will have on pollution and resources compared with some poor soul eking out an existence for 40 years in Peru, Nepal Mongolia etc.

What about India, China or Pakistan? Cherry picking the lest advance 3rd world countries is akin to putting your fingers in your ears and screaming 'la la la'. Clearly you know its happening so you chose three of the lowest polluters to try and prove some point. But all you've proven is the exception proves the rule. :)

Imagine the hilarity if we banned private cars and capitalism etc, and got our carbon footprint down to zero.....while at the same time, the third world becomes more prosperous and start owning cars (ours, which we will export) and becoming consumers, and the world CO2 emissions stay the same - or increase! What a laugh we'll all have!

Its coming. A global government is coming if we like it or not. Giving up any sense of national identity has to be one of the first traits to go. Only once national identity is erased can we truly move towards a global society. How do you eradicate national or more specifically a community identity? An uncontrolled and unwanted mass migration. Such is the force these days we cannot even question the influx of illegal immigration without being branded a racist. We just have to accept it unquestioningly and maybe have a wee grumble with those we are closest to knowing that such thoughts will go no further.

As Mark Renton put it; It's a SHITE state of affairs to be in, Tommy, and ALL the fresh air in the world won't make any ****************ing difference.:D

Not at all, I do believe over population is the big problem in the world, I just happen to think that a person born in the developed world is  a bigger part of the problem than one born in undeveloped countries. I also believe the problem will be reduced as third world women are educated and wealthy enough to  break out of the culture of large families, as demonstrated by the late Hans Roslin's animated graphics, from 9 to 11 minutes

I chose countries at the opposite end of the spectrum from us who not only do not impinge on the planet's welfare but also as a direct result of their poverty live on average half the time we in the well off nations expect to.

I also  don't believe we should lay it on people's that still have a lower cumulative effect on the deterioration of the commons than  the big three's effect on the planet's ability to support all of us, as demonstrated by the Carbon Brief graphic ( noting this is rather narrow view as it treats only CO2 emissions} .

Of course you have your beliefs and live your life and aspirations accordingly, as I've had mine. I'm off to bed now so probably won't respond further.

That's not something I can agree with. If I did  then I should be putting myself forward to take one for the team. No chance, life is a gift from the gods (not literally like), although I do think some don't deserve it but that's for another thread.

I'm not supposed to be posting any more on this thread but what the hell I always was full of the proverbial...I can understand why saying "of a lot us" might upset some people but that's not literally what I meant- having 2 kids generally is of course not excessive, having 8 is. And in a lot of countries old habits / religious compunction die hard. They are not going to be educated overnight

Actually its mostly lack of clean water ( infections then death)  miles to nearest clinic, no access to The Pill, tampons, condoms, scholarships, mid wives, after care.  Then a few little wars going on by, so if you end up with a couple of yr kids surviving- that will carry you through.  No guarantee tho'   K
