So at the risk of sounding totally daft ,here goes ....so, my yard is concrete so why, if I have to move a log that’s been there for a while (especially upright) why are there always worms underneath??? I never see stealth worms wriggling across the yard, they don’t live in the bloody log so where do they come from??? how do they get there??? are they really an alien intelligence that’s mastered teleporting, just waiting their time to change shape and take over ....or am I reading too much science fiction???

You really must be the number one unlucky person on arbtalk. At least we're all here ready to help each other out where we can , with good advice, bad advice, and amazingly frequently, physical assistance or kit.
If you gather enough worms in the yard it might soften the impact of the next ipad when it gets dropped [emoji16]

I left 2 shed stored, wood worm riddled Birch logs on top of a 4' high wall topped with 3' by 2' paving slabs.

I.e. a very bare sterile and exposed location.

Some time later when I disturbed them, the wildlife underneath was astounding, including fat healthy worms.

I too was puzzled at how they had got there, presumably the eggs blowing in the wind or being carried by birds?
