  1. Old ways are best, cheapest and most practical. A wealth of experience contained in one body. 😉
  2. Very easy to overstretch a non genuine circlip , beyond its "springiness". If I have to use them I try to wind them in rather than forcing them into a too tight circle, if that makes sense
  3. Why not take off what looks like another 5', to where the main bulk off the trees are? You'll still retain the screen effect and get rid of the horrid bare stems, and gives time for any underplanting to get going. You'll get new growth, though chaotically, and the screen will be undisturbed,
  4. .....however, you will have a wealth of experiences- both good and bad, a better understanding of how to deal with people you'd secretely like to just bludgeon to death, and the ability to say yeah I completed that shit of a day to my best ability. - Then there's the days when everything goes top class and gives the best buzz ever. Reward enough. 😉
  5. After getting all the kit for all situations, maintenance, repairs, f!#k ups, transport and insurances, you won't initially be getting rich working for yourself either.
  6. I'm sorry, but really disappointed. Thought you were a better man who could hold the hand up when required.
  7. Can't you back off the emojis? They're beginning to wear a bit thin now, and no longer proving anything and losing their significance, please.
  8. It got better.... wife returned back from shops with a couple of fine rib eyes for supper, so I saved half the morels, then dry fried with the steaks. Wow, what a tasty double protein punch of a meal. Unfortunately the morel season seems to be quite short. This is the second time I've found them growing out of woodchip. 😋😋
  9. Unfortunately he seems to half know what the right talk is for our industry. However he sure spends a lot of time trumpeting advice when the rest of you guys are out working, aiming to do the best job you can, to get away from the image long held , that we're a group of chancers.
  10. Oh feck it. Just noticed his earlier reply☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️
  11. For once something botty cough hasn't instantly voiced an opinion on . Well done.
  12. A nice bowl of cleaned Morel's ready to be dusted with seasoned flour and fried in butter. Can be gritty if not cleaned thoroughly, and slugs love hiding in them. But gorgeousand highly prized. Not telling anyone my source!
  13. I like my chemicals and solvents - one marker pen doesn't even get close 😉
  14. Glad you've finally got round to asking the question that perpetually slips my mind too.
  15. We make it commercially in the distillery whete I work. 1000l per year. Sloes come from Poland, but importantly, are frozen, which ruptures the skins, rather than pricking with forks or pins. Fruit is kept on the gin and sugar for at least 9months, in steel ibcs to exclude light. Light will cause the liquid to go brown rather than its gorgeous purple colour. Half demerara sugar half white , gives a richer flavour. We initially add in 100kg of sugar, then gently stir every 2-4 weeks. After about 5-6 months we start sampling and adding more sugar to get to right balance. Not all sloes have same sugar contents year on year, so not practical to just follow a set recipe.
  16. Yep olearia. Cut the f**k out of it and it will come back with even more prolific regrowth. Often used as a windbreak nurse shelter around coastal forest plantations here on SW coast of Ireland
  17. Yeah , suppose that makes sense. I just have this inherent and always wrong belief that any machine on tracks is constructed with the mechanicals and power of a Cat D7 and expect it to have that ability, and am frequently reminded to reduce my expectations.
  18. Curious to know why you went for the gooseneck method rather than mounting a ball hich on the end of the loadbed. I'd want to load up the dump unit itself, and the trailer.....but hey I'm just greedy.
  19. Is that scottish? Found myself reading as a glaswegian would read it
  20. Makes the heart sing when you get logs like that, that's when you know you're in the right job.🙂
  21. I visited Cologne (and frankfurt) way back in late 1980s. Noticed most street trees with any sort of defect filled with cement/concrete, and held together with massive galvanised through bolts. If they're still there I'd guess its because they're practically fossilised and no-one would want to put a saw anywhere near the poor things
