a problem i can see with that device is not being able to take wraps off under load,  whereas a portawrap or bollard you can put on too many wraps to start with and then remove them if needs be. plus the climber will need to keep going back to the device to adjust the amount of wraps on it.

I suppose with experience you'd come to know how many raps your likely to need on it..
