Yep pretty sure syc, dismantled it today. Coined it up and split it at home to notice this. Reminded me of my old boss telling me to always check beneath the bark before disking up as it's worth a good bit.

Whenever I checked with him it never turned out to be rippled so never really saw what to look for. Was hoping someone would know.....so this is just lightly rippled?

Ripples in figured wood run hoizontally across the grain the opposite to what you have shown , I have had and used rippled syc and ash and it really is gorgeous stuff but what you show is not rippled ...See left hand side of rippled Ash bowl below ...
