Matelot, that's a good post.
Arbtalk was better for me years ago, because I had so much to learn. Basic stuff I had been doing the hard way for years already.
It's still a very useful tool now, in so many different areas. You will literally never know it all.
The best thing it has done for me is helped me meet people, via shows, sales, PM's, rec climbs or good old fashioned piss-ups over the years.

Arbtalk is the single best thing that has happened to me in my arb career.

I am renowned as a piss-taker, but I actually mean that.

It's certainly helped with your chronic shyness :D

You're so negative Bullman, this is the problem.
You and your mate MonkeyD.
Fungi expert?
I met him in the the urinals at the Arb Show a few years back.
I swivelled round, shook it, and said 'Identity these fungal bodies then.'
He just mumbled something and left.
Some expert.
I saw him later wrestling John Shutler next to a firepit.
Or that could have been me. Possibly at a different show.
I can't remember exactly.

Throughout time mankind has always reminisced about a previous golden era. Has this golden era really existed or is it our memory playing tricks?

Socrates wrote this 2,400 years ago...

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

It's something you could write just now and have people agreeing with.

I don't know if Arbtalk was better in the past. However I think we all know that in ten years time someone will be saying "Arbtalk was so much better ten years ago".

Disagree - In ten years time people will be wondering how to make electricity, what 'life' used to be like and why Kim Flung Dung and Donald 'do it my way' Trump pressed each other's buttons and fried 99% of the planet.

I joined in 2008, since then there have been some diamonds and some absolute weapons through these doors. How it always was and will be. I agree with the pseudonym part and people just logging on to stir it up. Know where to ask the right question goes a long way and the ignore button is used more that ever before. Just my 2p worth

I see the pseudonym thing cropping up a couple of times in this thread and id just like to remind folks that some of us with pseudonyms arent hiding behind a fake name, strategiclally waiting to pounce on others with horrible put downs and awful comments...i just liked stihlmadasever cause i was a stihl enthusiast at that time(im cured of that now) and it kinda flowed as a word.

My profile with all my details are there for all and sunder to peruse at your leisure.

Im sure i speak for many others too...

Although there are some who i know will never identify themselves due to extreme views...not that i give a toss-to each his own and all that
