How do people rate these? other than sliding in the splice,....I mean the general concept

Really rate my 1 and used it lots especially for compromised trees or when we are running as a two man team as climber can hold control the rope while groundsman controls the limb being lowered

My 1 did the same once so I whipped around the top to tighten it up a bit and been fine since.

Could you use some heavy duty zip ties to lock it in place better?

It adds friction like a lowering device , if you use a bollard your doubling the force on the top rigging point.. this acts like a bollard at the top of the tree, they are pretty smooth and easy to use.

Just carry on crotch rigging in those situations Mick.

It's a lot cheaper than this bollocks which will potentially kill you, as Matty has pointed out.
