Why is everyone blaming the planter?

The planter is responsible to a manager, presumably better paid and educated, who has a duty to manage the staff and what they do. If the manager spec's single stakes, that's how they're planted.

If the planter doesn't know how to plant or hasn't been taught, who's really to blame?

To be fair, I've seen enuff arb companies blasting by with unwrapped rootball ( ie expensive ) trees 3-5m long - no wind wrap on the crown n see them go in with tops burnt off n then struggle all year with no mulching or aftr care . That aint too bad an effort K

I think you have miss-read the OP, its likely been planted by a "mower pusher" as its their off season.

Indeed I did, still my thoughts remain the same and as another poster has said I don't blame the planter it's all levels who are at fault.

A few of our contracts now require a 3/5 year after care program including replacement and we will not receive all the money until that time so it's all factored in to the overall cost, so you tend to make sure the planting is done well to give the stock the best chance of survival so your not hit on replacements.

Better paid and a lot more of them, the plants and labour will be a tiny fraction in the whole scheme. I would imagine there was a consultant involved along with the expense of many other pen pushing leeches. Makes my piss boil.Anger as 539 council bosses paid more than PM Theresa May
