Been a real downturn in the numbers here over the last few years.

We used to get hobby hawks follow them up from Africa, you could watch them hunting the swallows in the village.

Sadly haven't seen a hobby in a while now.

I remember a documentary where some were fitted with trackers and they nested in various parts of UK but when the weather was bad they left the young in the nest and went as far as Holland in search of insects returning to feed the young ones in the same day. Plenty of them flying round here in the last couple of weeks, Swifts and Swallows.

Hope thats the case but wouldn't say the weather has been especially bad. Did see a couple in the barn this afternoon though. Fingers crossed their numbers recover.

I was walking with my spaniel one summer and just in front of my face there was a sudden collision . What I think was a Hobby ( small blueish hawk ) took a swallow in mid flight .
