I'm just about to order 200 fully vented 1 cubic meter bags (not 0.75) form this fellow Joe:

Bag Supplies (fibc) Ltd

83 Hawick Drive, Dundee, DD4 0JY

T - +44 (0) 1382 736334

F - +44 (0) 1382 732875

M - +44 (0) 775 365 0195

W - Bulk Bags, Vented Log Bags, FIBCs, Nets, Sacks, Liners, from Bag Supplies (fibc) Ltd

He said he will do a delivered price of £5-30+vat delivered for all arbtalk members if you order in this sort of quantity.

He seems confident in the quality and re usability. I am assuming they're resistant to UV light as if they're not it's pointless having them!! Will confirm before ordering.

Vented bags have got to be the way forward as far as reduced handling and fast drying. I'll put some pics up when they get here.

Thought about doing this for a while as it seems so easy and less handling, how are people delivering them though? do you take them in the bag and just tip it up and leave the bag or tip it out at the yard and deliver loose. i thought about building the price of a bag into the cost per bag and just tipping it out at the punters, any thoughts.

I spoke to Joe Miller also, and he quoted £5.75 for small quantities for 1cube bags and £5.30 for 0.75 cube bags. All in multiples of 25.

The guy is a sound bloke. He told me their bags are anti UV treated, and even offered some practical advice. He said they have customrs who are getting 5 or 6 trips out of these bags, so if that works out they should be worth it.

Sounds like you got a deal out of him Rob:thumbup1:

..and not a wire frame, you need a smooth sided box so the lumps and bumps dont snag

I've gone for an IBC block (1000 litre liquid container as used by farmers for water storage etc), take the pallet off the bottom and the top / bottom of the plastic tub. Leaves a smooth sided free standing 1 cube frame to drop a bag in, clip the straps to the frame, lift off when the bags full.

If you're lucky you can get them as a waste container from printers etc - just watch what they've had in them some can be nasty chemical types.

If you can handle them / get enough and want to deliver loose, why bother with the bags? IBC's are designed to be stacked and come with the pallet attached, just whip the plastic tub out.

loose is definately the key delivered in spring time for the customer to dry. but what are the chances of that?

I am training my customers into this. I will try and do a mail shot in the spring.Processing green wood in march on hard ground when its not frozen or pouring with rain is the way to go. The profit margins are too small for a small business to spend tens of thousands of pounds on cord wood to then wait 12 months to get your money back.

I have two new customers this week that want 8 cubic metresof bone dry firewood they have plenty of money and storage space ?

The other thing to do is start collecting email addresses because you can send offers out without postage costs.
